why is my keyboard gone when i need to enter my password?

all that shows on my screen is the space to enter my password, but i can't because my keyboard is gone! i have a Samsung Galaxy J1 Express 3 2016. already i tried to restart my phone. taking out and replacing the battery does not work.

Try Safe Mode. Tell us what happens.

You can always connect a usb keyboard so you can unlock your phone and proceed to trouble shoot why the keyboard app isn't working. Possible clearing cache on the keyboard app will fix it.
