Why is my Nexus 5 battery life so awful?

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

I've been struck by the google play services thing eating up my battery. now to disable apps 1 by 1 to figure it out.

I toggled Google Services OFF/ON and the battery usage problem disappeared.
I also left GPS off...since I don't need it at home.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

Anyone notice that the battery drains quicker when it is lower around the 60's to 50s %.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

I bought my battery from: phonextreme.co.za/batteries-batteries-nexus-battery-eac62078701-p-6966.html?cPath=1009_698

But I reside in South Africa so i'm not sure if that's a good option for you. But the one I bought from there has helped me quite a lot.
As an alternative, have you tried maybe changing Roms? You could possibly use CyanogenMod? They're quite reliable and aren't particularly battery hungry as opposed to other Roms or even the stock rom.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

Hi,
Sorry to bother you, but could you tell me if your replacement Nexus 5 battery has a varies temperature?
I mean if the temperature goes up to 35 Celsius when it's charging or you're playing games, of if it goes down to 25 when it's idle.
Because my replacement battery always stays at 29 degrees Celsius, no matter how I use the phone.
I think mine might be bad, but I want to check with someone else before buying another one.
Thanks.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

Mine is usually at 85 degrees, but then I not much for heave games on a cell phone

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

I find that my battery will drain from 100% to 80% very quickly. But from 80% down drains like it should.
Not so much but when it hits 90% it will go to 88% in only a couple of minutes of use then drop down more normal after. Then when it goes below 70% as I said it drops quicker.

Well, 85 Fahr is about 29 Celsius, and this is exactly what my replacement battery is showing...
A constant 29 deg C, all the time, even when playing games, and even when outside is freezing, so this is definitely not normal.
Please check if it ever changes to something different than 85 F in your case ?

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

Finally i have my battery but my tools to open the phone are still traveling.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

And battery finally is replaced and wow nexus 5 show new life again no miscellaneous drain, no jump and fall after reboot, no charge in 40 minutes.

Congratulations! But this shows that only those devices should be bought who has removable back so that replacement becomes the easiest!

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

I have looked around on the forum and online regarding this issue. Since 5.0 the battery life on my nexus 5 is awful. If I leave it alone and don't turn the screen on the phones battery life is fine, however as soon as I start to use it it drops. Yesterday I lost 10% in 15 minutes. I am now running Android 5.0.1. I was wondering if this could just be the battery going. The phone is about a year and a half old now. I've run battery checks but they come back as ok. Not sure what else to try, Hopefully someone can give me some pointers!

The battery life on my Nexus10 has also seriously degraded when It was upgraded to Lollipop. When I click on "settings" and look at the time vs % charge graph, my Nexus10 uses up about 50% of its battery after 3 hours and then, literally, drops dead and without any warning my tablet shuts off. This has got to be a programming glitch. A very annoying, program glitch!

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

While the OS has stabilized and is no longer laggy, the battery is just poor. And now that I've got Bluetooth on all the time using a moto 360, its a little worse. Some days I can only get 2-2.5 hrs onscreen.

It's not unusual for a battery that is 1 1/2 yrs old to not hold a charge as long as it used to. Li-on batteries can only charge/discharge so many times before it has trouble holding a charge. I'm surprised more people don't know this.

That's the problem. Bluetooth is a major battery hog on Lollipop and too think it suppose to get better battery life. My mothers Nexus 5 phone had Bluetooth on by accident and she wondered why her phone was hot and drains fast. I also no longer use it on my Bluetooth speakers instead I plug them into the AUX jack.

Re: Nexus 5 Battery Life

I am getting the same thing, I think it is a Lollipop issue as this was fine on KitKat. I do have 3rd party insurance I took out last year that lapses next month, I am wondering after reading this thread, if I should put in a claim even though I am not sure it is defective.

Edited to add: nevermind, just checked my policy, it does not cover batteries (wear and tear), only accidental damage, theft, fire. Oh well, not going to renew the policy anyway.
