Why is my Note 3 constantly searching for GPS after Lollipop upgrade?

Thank You Marcinek, the program that was causing my battery to run down in 3 hours and constantly
"Searching for GPS" has been fixed. It was definitely "Unified Daemon"! Force Stop, Disable and no
more problem.

I have the same issue. It's not the unified daemon, restarting/ resetting doesn't help. It's a bug in the S-View cover and lock screen weather widget. This is doing the constant GPS polling. If you disable just that weather widget then the polling stops. The main weather widget is OK. Hopefully this will be fixed soon! So, a simple workaround is just disable the lock screen/cover widget only, no need to disable Unified Daemon.

Re: Note 3 constantly Searching for GPS after Lollipop upgrade

Try this:

Open Phone, as if you were going to make a phone call and dial -
*#9090# (*#197328640# if that doesn't work)
Menu, select Key Input, enter Q
Menu, select Key Input, enter 0000
wait for the next menu. (It takes a while.)
UMTS->COMMON->NV REBUILD->NV REBUILD->SYSTEM->PROTOCOL->GPS->IMS
or, if you don't have UMTS:
UE SETTINGS & INFO->SETTING->SYSTEM->NV REBUILD->ALL

Restart the phone.

The first (cold) fix should take about 20-30 seconds.

I did the *#9090# and I selected option 1 and it caused me to lose service and send my phone into a boot loop. I did not mean to hit option 1 I'm just dumb and got trigger happy. At first I would be able to access the phone for about 20 seconds before the reboot. So I performed the master reset. Now it is still in a constant boot loop as it is trying to analyze the apps. I cannot do anything to the phone. I have att. Please help! I don't know what to do.

Weather widget uses Unified Daemon.

"What does the Unified Daemon do?"

And more about problems with the S4 and KitKat and this app, but could apply here. Check the background settings on it, restrict the background data if you want to use the Weather, Stocks and News that come pre-installed on the phone.

Thank you!!!

This worked for me with these directions...Settings --> Lock screen --> additional information --> weather

I initially disabled Daemon EUR and that didn't work, so I re-enabled it and in turn disabled weather on my lock screen. I don't know if it was one or the other but I can finally use Waze consistently now. Thanks for the advice!!

*#9090# (*#197328640# if that doesn't work) -neither of these codes worked for me...I am using a Note 3 for Sprint (USA)...my GPS is completely useless at this time...any ideas/suggestions (I have already tried the apps -not the ones that need rooting- and still no joy)

If it's only happened since the update, bring it to Sprint and ask them to please fix what their update broke. Back up EVERYTHING first - Backing up an Android Device. You may end up going through a lot of phones before they get you one that works. (Try a real Sprint corporate store, not an independent dealer, which most Sprint stores are. They can do it, but it costs them time it should be costing Sprint.)

If enough phones get thrown back at the manufacturers, maybe they'll find it more cost-effective to check their phones and updates before letting them loose. (Not that Samsung is in any position to lose another nickel at this point - but it was their decision to send out a bad update.)

I was told by Sprint that this is a known problem and they have no actual solution for it....I guess I'll wait for the new Note to come out (I am due a new phone anyway)

Re: Note 3 constantly Searching for GPS after Lollipop upgrade

Worked for me, thanks!
Didn't have UMTS:
UE SETTINGS & INFO->SETTING->SYSTEM->NV REBUILD->ALL
Restart phone

Re: Note 3 constantly Searching for GPS after Lollipop upgrade

I pressed the green Phone Icon as if I was making a call. Keyed in *#9090#, then present the Menu icon on the lower left, but no such "Key Input" appeared on the menu list. Same scenario when keying in *#197328640# - no such "Key Input" appeared on the menu list. What gives?

Those tricks don't work. Only the workaround works i.e. disable the lock screen and cover weather widget.

I was told by Sprint that this is a known problem and they have no actual solution for it.
I don't accept that from a merchant - "you sold me a product that you know doesn't work and you took my money that does work? That's larceny by fraud, and it's a felony. Give me back my money, take back your product and cancel any association (the account, in this case) between us. Or I go to the district attorney (or whoever you go to where you live) and file a criminal complaint."

It's like buying a car with no brakes and being told that immediate brake failure is "a known problem, and they can't fix it".

They CAN fix it - by 1) giving you back all the money they've taken from you and 2) refusing to sell phones with "known problems".

Or are we all just going to buy non-working new products and accept that "things just don't work"?

Thank you for solving this "searching for GPS" flashing icon problem on my Samsung Note3 with S-View cover. It was definitely the weather app in S-View only. Main weather app is okay.
