Samsung Galaxy S5 only charging via USB & Hardware ID Missing.

Hiya,

I've had my S5 for 6 months & never hard any issues up until now. Since yesterday it won't charge via a mains charger & will only charge plugged into the pc via USB but very slowly, it's charged about 20% in 2 hours, when before it would be fully charged in less than an hour. I also noticed that since yesterday it now says "Hardward ID Missing" when I plug it into the pc, which it never did before either. So I'm guessing the two are linked? Any ideas?

Thanks very much :)

Samsung S5 started only charging when plugged into computer. Multiple cords tried. My app saving was already unchecked as was power saving and USB debugging was unchecked. What gives. Any other ideas?

It is driving me crazy. I have an S5 and have done everything I can to figure this issue out. I've turned off all those settings. I've switched cables/chargers. Nothing. It only charges on the computer via usb. And the computer won't recognize the phone. Can't anyone from Samsung or Android explain this? It obviously isn't isolated.

Possible solution for: Why is my Samsung Galaxy S5 only charging via USB?

Try taking out the battery, holding down the power button for 60 seconds (this will clear the RAM). Put the battery back, power up and test the wall charger.

I tried every option on the forums to get charging to work. Including
-opening the developer tools to access and turn off USB debugging (it was already off)
-changing the battery settings on App optimisation to off.

With both of these it made no difference, only after I removed the battery, held down the power button and then rebooted the phone did it work.

Both my wife and I have the same phone (note 5) and ours started having this problem as well after an update in or around november 2017. We first noticed this when our phones would no longer work in our vehicle connected thru androidauto. Tried all the common sense things, a million diff usb cables, reinstalled drivers on pc, restarted phones, turned off for a period of time, restarted in safe mode, etc.

The phones will only charge when connected to anything via usb. They are no longer recognized as a storage device on any computer, or our vehicles android auto. And yes I've gone thru developer options, debugging, changing to media transfer device setting. This is obviously some problem focused around the software update and it is not isolated. 2 separate phones (mine and my wifes) ran into the same issue after an update and would no longer connect to our chevy suburban's androidauto, yet they will still continue to charge via usb.

I would do a factory reset, but I really want to back up our phones first and it is difficult to do when you can't get a working USB connection to your PC. Any new or novel suggestions on what's wrong here? After searching multiples postings on multiple message boards, this seems to be more than a rare occurence and I'm hoping someone has a solution.

First off I am a technophobe. My Galaxy S6 stopped charging on mains whichever lead I used. No Samsung forums provided a solution which worked.Found the possible cause/solution on an iphone forum. Damage(?) to charging port may mean that 'phone won't charge on mains charger as voltage/ampage too high. My phone still charged ok on my Mac and in the car. What I now do - and it works - is to plug my spare Belkin 7 port hub into the mains, the 'phone (same lead) into the Belkin and hey presto the 'phone charges - and quickly. Presume same with S5 and with other port hubs - as long as have mains plug to power not just a USB plug. My concern was really that when travelling I may not have access to a MAC/PC or vehicle charging point and needed a solution.

Use a power bank. Or get the port repaired. My old S3 had a problem and havibg it repaired at a Samsung center cost like 5USD.

Hello there. Im tempted to try your way. I dont understand what you mean really. Could you perhaps explain it in a more simple way. If you can :)
