Why is my samsung s5 gobbling up internal memory I've used 11.4 gigs

The memory usage doesn't add up. ES File Explorer App shows 10 .5 g in Other with about 400m free.

Where does esfile explorer say 10.5? On sdcard0? And where does it say 11.4? How many gbs is your phone? Do u have an external sdcard? Need more details

11.4G is listed under total used, 10.5 is under Other after the total scan is completed. I think 16g total including 4g external.

Yes but where on your phone are you reading those i mean? Under your main settings in storage or in the esfileexplorer app on the homepage or somewhere else? And what scan? Es scans a few different things like the sd card where it gives you the option to hide flr example

Since different phones are partitioned differently, there's no way to turn a guess ("where on the phone are you reading these") with reality ("how much actual free ROM is there in the phone, and how much of it have you actually used")? I have a phone (granted, it's an old one) that has 80k or 1.7GB free, depending on how you boot it. And those are real numbers. Meaningless, but real.
