why is my screen black, but phone turning on?

I drooped my phone, and it cracked at the bottom left of the screen while at school. I have straight talk. My phone will come on, but my screen will not. My screen is completly black and will not let me do anything. I need help. Because i do not know if it is my screen that needs to be replaced or the whole phone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s3.

That is the difficulty, and probably the best thing to do would be to put it into the hands of a repairer for diagnosis.
