Why is my screen black on a call. Nit able to select options with numbers on calls

Screen goes black when call connects. Not able to see anything. Incoming calls, number pad, nothing.

Hi, which phone? How do you get it to turn back on the screen?

Welcome to Android Central! Does the screen stay on if you use speakerphone? If so, then something is probably blocking your proximity sensor, like a poorly-fitting screen protector or case.
