Why is my screen fogging?!

[Android Central Question]

I have an HTC U11plus. I put my phone on my desk to charge it then walked away, I came back about one and a half hours later. I turn my screen on and almost the whole screen is covered in fog I also notice an alarm was going off on the phone but I didn't realize while it was charging cause it was silent. I turned the phone off and take the case off, waved it around for awhile, now it's significantly reduced but fog is still around the edges and seeming to leave a white imprint of what my clock batter life etc at the top was when it was bad. It's really freaking me out cause I just got this phone. If anyone can help me PLEASE do!
