Why is my text messaging alert not working?

[Android Central Question]

I have a moto G8 power and whatever I try to do I cannot get the phone to signal that a message has been received audibly.
If I go to received messages and click on the individual message and then hit the 3 dots details notifications I see it is set to Silent . I can then alter it to Default and hopefully it will ring but is there a simpler way to set the default ringtone for every message received?

The Moto may have sightly different options but it sounds like your default sound for notifications has be set to silent. Used to see this a lot but not so much anymore. Anyway in your settings either under sounds or notifications there should be settings for ringtone and notification sound. Check there to change to a default sound to use.
