Why is Samsung so successful?

Re: Why is Samsung so succesful?

I've read many comments under the galaxy S4 articles that suggest that the galaxy line is more successful than the Nexus line because of features such as touchwiz over AOSP. My question to you is: If Samsung replaced touchwiz with AOSP would they receive roughly the same amount of sales? In other words does the general consumer consider touchwiz a plus over AOSP or even know the difference? My opinion on why the galaxy line is so successful over the nexus line primarily due to Samsung being a MARKETING GIANT. Another question. If the nexus 4 received the same exact marketing treatment as the galaxy line would it also have similar sales numbers?
Marketing, Samsung knows how to market.

Re: Why is Samsung so succesful?

Samsung is very successful because if it's OS Android. That's it! That's my opinion and I guess that is basically the reason they are successfull

By that logic though, that means everyone else that makes Android phones should be just as successful but they definitely aren't.

This is from me, on my EVO 3D.

Re: Why is Samsung so succesful?

I could say my Nexus 4 or the htc one x is a better phone than the s3 . Nexus 4 has a quad core krait while the s3 has a dual core krait and the nexus 4 has a non pentile hd screen while the s3 has a pentile screen. I don't think they make the best phones. At the very least it isn't as clear cut as the way you put it. Marketing is clearly the logical explanation on why Samsung is at the top.

Yes the cpu is better on the nexus, as well as the screen, but overall the gs3 is better because it does all the nexus can do and more.

Better camera, more features, more durable, plus I don't have to worry about battery life

I personally fell in love with the amoled display. To my eyes, it is just drop dead awesome.

Untill you put it side by side with a super lcd 3 display or a properly calibrated nexus 4 display and realize how awful the whites look and how unrealistic the colors are.

Re: Why is Samsung so succesful?

Yeah right. The AMOLED displays are horrendous and scream poor quality. Pentile displays especially on the S3 make images look like a dog took a massive dump on them and SMEARED it all over.
I must have bad eyes 'cuz I like them.

Um? so you're saying the Nexus 4 has better specs but the GS3 can "do more"? That doesn't make sense. The Nexus 4 is better by almost all measures.

Technically he's sort of right.

RAW specs - advantage Nexus 4.

But start checking off hardware features (like expandable memory, removable battery, MHL) and you can sort of do more with the S3.

Your eyes are impressed with the overly saturated colors... That's all. Its easy to become deceived. I owned a galaxy nexus for a year. I too was "impressed" with the screen initially but it was primarly due to to over saturated colors. Compared to an HD IPS display it just can't compare when it comes to sharpness, color accuracy, brightness, and whites.

It's a screen. If my eyes are impressed, that is all that matters. Doesn't matter to me why. All that matters is that I love clicking that screen "on" to look at it.

Me likely overly saturated colors!

I prefer color accuracy and sharpness. But yes I ultimately agree with you that it is a purely subjective preference.
Anyways, I hope Samsung are the ones pushing these "leaks" as a giant misdirection with fake images or else tomorrow's event will be quite boring. Seriously if the leaks are real I am stumped on why people consider Samsung the best handset manufacturer. They are the best marketers.

Name 5 things the nexus 4 can do that the galaxy S 3 can't do.

Then I'll name things the galaxy S III CAN do that the nexus can't.

more features doesn't always mean better. Again this is a subjective preference but I personally cannot stand touchwiz. The ui is just not aesthetically pleasing. AOSP is better optimized and much less of a resource hog than any 3rd party skin. Features are a plus if they are particularly useful. I personally find majority of touchwiz enhancements gimmicky plus many of them can be found in third party apps in the play store. At the end of the day these aspects are not objective: faster processor, better display, better support from Google.

I'll rather have the Samsung plastic than that issuance ridden iphony like glass on the N4 imo plus I like the way my Gnex feels and the s3.

I have no issues with that glass ok?

Re: Why is Samsung so succesful?

I believe that Samsung is so popular because it is one of the first companies which noted the great potential of Android and started to develop smartphones using this OS.
Besides, Samsung has a VERY good marketing group which created the image of a successful company in any field of tech design (phones, fridge, laptops). Other companies were a bit more conservative when it was necessary to be progressive.
