Why is the GS3 so appealing to you over the EvoLTE?

While I haven't made a decision yet, the 2 GB of RAM might be a BIG DEAL. On my original EVO with it's (i think) 512 meg of RAM I have been out of space for about a year. Don't do most app updates -- no room. Everything that can be moved to the SD card IS moved (got an app for that).

So I honestly don't know if the 1 GB on the new EVO will solve that problem permanently or just temporarily. Maybe 2 GB on the S3 is that important.

No question that has been the biggest problem I've faced on my original EVO

ram isnt the same thing as rom, ram is temporary space for running apps and rom is internal storage for apps. But anyway both phones should have plenty of available space for apps for a while, you shouldnt have to worry about it

The better camera is the only thing that would make me consider the S3 over the new EVO.

What apps are really optimized for that ram though? For me, it looks cheap and gaudy, and the physical home key is a step backwards.

If the S3 had kept the quad core for U.S version which is not currently possible without losing LTE, then I wouldve gone with the S3(if they had brought it out sooner). But yeah the whole look and feel of the S3 is just craptastic and the home button has gotten bad reviews for not working as good as it should and feeling 'craptastic' yep I used that twice!

It will be interesting to see how good the S3 performs here in the states.

You are right. And storage (read/write) isn't the same as ROM. ROM is not internal storage for apps.

ROM = BIOS, essentially (sometimes people refer to the system partition on internal flash storage as "ROM", although not technically correct, it could be worse)

MEMORY = RAM = volatile area for execution of OS an code. Evo LTE has 1GB.

STORAGE = FLASH = permanent area for storage of OS code, apps, and data. Evo LTE has 16GB internal storage. Plus you can add a microsd card for up to 64GB more.

In multithreaded situations, yes, the international version Galaxy SIII quad core will faster than the Evo LTE/One X. However, almost nothing in practical use, especially on a phone, will take advantage of that. *Maybe* a handful of very intense games, especially since the SIII's graphics coprocessor will be faster under most all situations.

In all other cases, which is what people will see and feel the most, the S4 processor's cores used in the Evo LTE/One X are faster. They are based on a better and more modern ARM and have more horsepower. Fewer faster cores for single-user, low-threading applications is always much better than more slower cores.

The SIII's Exynos 4 CPU will be the fastest in some limited situations (with the CPU in more situations), but in more cases, it will be SLOWER than the S4 in the Evo LTE and One X. A perfect case of raw benchmarking designed to show multithreading power will simply not reflect real use situations.

In reality, it probably doesn't really matter. Both are very fast and certainly in the same class. But thinking the 4 core Exynos is "better" than the Evo LTE's S4 is "wrong thinking".

That being said, I do wish the evo had a quad core.

You would never know you didn't have it, except by running benchmarks.

Benchmarks dont mean anything, we have heard this before, but right there you can see how much quicker the quad core handles the processes than the dual core.

See my above postings. It is not that benchmarks don't mean anything- they most certainly do. But they are constantly misunderstood. A benchmark measures only certain things and only under certain conditions. Like statistics, they can be made to give many different results. And those results might never apply to any real-world condition.

The only REAL advantages the USA GSIII will have over the Evo LTE is the possible (likely?) addition of more memory and removable battery (which for many is not a big whoop). 2GB RAM could be great- But at the cost of a worse screen, no kickstand, and no camera button. That appears to be the tradeoff. They are both beasts and most would likely be happy with either.

Could be...but what demands that right now?

"Why is the GS3 so appealing to you over the EvoLTE?"

It's not. I never considered getting the GS3. If someone offered me either the GS3 or the new Evo for free, I'd take the new Evo.

The only advantage I see for the GS3 over the Evo is the replaceable battery. But it being a Samsung completely negates that, so I'll stick with my Evo.

So the S3 is only a dual core phone in the US? I thought all the talk about it was because it was gonna be a quadcore phone?

In that case flghhhttt on that. EVO LTE all the way. Kinda worried that I'm pushing the RAM to just under 100 mb atm, but I love the EVO line.

Had the Samsung instinct a couple years back. Thought it was the coolest thing since it was the first touch screen on sprint. Until the touch screen stopped working and would not work again after being repaired.

Lost my faith in Samsung phones since that day. Still use the tv, but they are still holding up well in that department.

From my own experience the Sammy phones are way too laggy for me, that is why I stick with HTC phones are a lot quicker and faster.

because it won't be held up at customs

Yeah? Well it would have been if Apple hadn't gotten so bored of being ripped off by Samsung that they didn't care anymore.

It might actually make it into my hands, as apposed to be locked up in a Customs Warehouse surronded by dogs sniffing around for coffee grounds.

Just a food for thought for all you fanboys blowing up the 2 GB of RAM thing.........Have any of you looked at the size of the S/W stack of the new touchjizz?? It's huge, and couple that with Android 4.0 ICS and you have one HUGE ROM. So its no wonder the SGS3 has 2 GB of RAM, because if they tried to use 1 GB the thing would lag like hell. So for all those talking 2 GB of RAM is a game changer......you might want to wait till you get the phone and see how much is usuable after touchjizz and apps and everything else gets their share. You might not be so happy with what you find.

The knock on Samsung's radios isn't really warranted anymore since it's using the same S4 chip as the EVO LTE.

The removable battery is a big plus and the camera might be better, and speakerphone probably louder.

I'm loving my EVO though, the camera button, kickstand, and media link is great, I'm good with it for another 2 years

So which am I low on when the notification bar tells me I'm low on disc space (6 GB free on SD, and everything that can be moved to SD is moved)

I doubt Android would use the words "disc space", so you need to post the exact message before anyone could even attempt to answer that question.
