Why is the middle part of my gt-18552 touch screen is not working?

Whenever i touch the screen or touch an app that is located on the middle part of my cellphone it will open an app that is located on the upper or lower part of the screen. When im texting the only thing working in the keyboard is the space bar and the other lower keys. What kind of problem is this? How can i fix it? Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! Sounds like the screen digitizer is failing, which would have to be replaced in a repair shop.
