Why is unlocked always last?

Check again now tmobile and xfinity mobile we just got it 1hr ago
Nothing for the US unlocked version yet. But I'm hoping it would mostly rollout by end of this week since all carriers have already rolled out Oreo.

I'm starting to think these carriers are removing features for their own apps. My wife is pissed about losing some on her Verizon N8. I'm gonna wait and see if Google removed those or the carriers. If so I'm gonna have a long talk with Samsung about this as a serious breach to our contracts. If we allow these carriers to favor Apple and allow no tamper then we should get the same no tamper for Samsung.

I blame the Carriers.. Wanna maintain more control over choices people make. Yes, don't say if apple does it, so why can't Samsung... They are not the same, yet.

Samsung has little incentive to delay the release.

Carriers want people locked to their networks (now contracts are not seen directly), and so have more incentive to push updates to IMEIs of their carrier branded phones while delaying it purposefully for the unlocked ones..

I'm unlocked Note 8 from Best Buy Canada and I'm on Virgin Mobile. Just got the Oreo update and I'm checking everything and it all looks good. Have Gifs now on my Samsung Message which is cool.

Well then why do we even care about the update? I was hoping for a bit of extra battery time, but heck my wife is flipping mad cause she has vzw model and now no more custom text sounds. Wth r they doing? R they trying to go for another N7 debacle? I bet they hired an ex Apple genius and the N9 is going to feature no head phone jack with poo emoji!

I'm pretty sure losing the custom text sounds has nothing to do with just Samsung, because Sony users are also complaining about losing that feature.

Check again. I just checked my Unlocked Unbranded Note 8 and have the download waiting.

I got it. Just not impressed with it. Nothing new really. Changed the way it looks and moved stuff around. Took out features and appears to use more battery so far. Update went smooth with no adverse side effects.

Unlocked should get updates first and motivate users to buy unlocked and stop carriers from tinkering with boot screen and adding default apps. Slowly should not be any carrier specific at all like Apple updates.

There are carrier specific updates in Apple's updates.

Yes, ofcourse based on frequency and technology not with respect to boot loader and carrier apps. And still controlled and tested by Apple.

In theory, unlocked should be first, but I'm sure carriers are hindering that in some way.
In the usa, unlocked is last because it needs to be tested for all networks. The carrier specific ones only need to be tested for one carrier.

In theory? No. It's more like people (and by people, I mean enthusiasts that would posts on forums like this) assume they know how updates work and think that carriers are the only evil ones.

So unlocked should be first because then you get the update untested on your carrier and you can't use your phone until they have released their update, it is re-tested on base and then finally re-released to the unlocked stream, prioritised with all of the other carrier releases?
An unlocked phone can be used with any carrier so its updates have to wait for all carriers it can be used with to complete testing and release.

That would be like saying "We have a lab tested medical cure for this disease. We should test it on the general populace before proceeding to our limited control groups"

It's a no brainer.

Look at it this way. You get the update after everyone else has alpha tested it on all the carriers and posted the goods, the bads and the workarounds.

Pretty much any issue you might run into has an answer here.

So where can I get the Unlocked firmware to load manually through Odin? I want to load a clean copy to see if that will fix these quirks. Seems either the download is corrupted when done through the phone.
