Why isn't my HTC M8 playng with aux?

HTC m8 not playng with aux

I had a samsung s4. and I used a feature that could connect your phone to the car radio. Over the headphone jack. otherwise speaking through the AUX port. Music from phone cable goes to RADIO and play. To make the HTC M8 me fail. After connecting the headphones, all is well. I listen to music through headphones. Connect aux show. The sound from the phone plays over the phone.

It could be a slight difference in the plug tolerances, where the AUX cable is a little too short. I've also seen where the plug casing is pretty thick and won't pass through a phone case. If you don't have interference with a phone case, I'd suggest trying a new AUX cable (aka stereo dub cable).
