Why isn't my ring-tone not loud enough when sound switched on?

Ring-tone not loud enough when sound switched on

I have the Nexus 4 & on Lollipop 5.1. I've noticed whenever I', in silent mode & switch silent mode off & go into loud mode, I still have to bump the volume of the phone up to hear alerts.

Is there a workaround?
