since they repaired its charging system i think the guy spoilt it some how then told me problem was with my software

Can you provide details to the whole story? You said it got repaired? What repair was done? Try a factory reset and then try another SIM card and see if it reads. Also, what model and carrier do you have? There's a chance of physical damage, or the repair guy forgot to plug in all the wires inside therefore it's not reading.
