Why ROM?

I have the Official GB release (although not the OTA version, I have the rooted version) 596 or whatever it is. Phone seems to work wonderfully. My motto is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So what do I have to gain by flashing a custom ROM instead of using the base system? BLUR seems better in this version, so I haven't seem a reason to complain yet. What does a ROM like liberty have to offer over the standard?

While blur it is better...it isn't great. Some people flash Roms to get closer to stock AOSP (apex 2.0), some flash for the additional speed (liberty rom), other features (mobile hotspot without paying...bad people)...So up to you

I guess the only thing i care about is speed, as long as its not compromising anything. i'm just nervous that it will cause another problem somewhere else. do you use Liberty? I see a lot of chatter about that one and so I've been considering it. I'm trying to determine if there is any downside

One main downside for me is that a number of the roms out there are blurless rom which means they remove all Blur base apps like the Universal InBox and replace the stock gallery that causes issues at times.... These roms do run well without blur but some of the features I prefer.... I prefer a basic stripped down rom that I can install my pick of apps onto but some developers have there pick of apps that they want to install that's not for me...

Don't let this influence you, there is a number of nice developers out there that have some incredible talents and the roms may work better for you..

ROMs don't just help with speed; they can also help by creating a smoother experience. The stock Blur experience can be pretty laggy at times.

You can always install Droid 2 Bootstrapper, make a back up of your current set up and try any ROM you like. If you do not like it any ROM you can always go back to your back up.

I use Liberty, however I been hearing great things about Apex.

Read the features of each ROM (by searching here, on Google or on any other forum, go to youtube and search these ROMS and look at the features)

However Apex is already in its Final form, Liberty Gingerbread still in "Beta" and with a few bugs.

Also there's a couple more ROMS base out of Gingerbread.

And do not worry, you get in trouble or something bad happens you can always count on this forum to help you!!
