I was just looking at the memory usage on my N7 and saw that there are 1700 thumbnail jpg files in the folder: /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/.thumbnails. I have loaded quite a number of files from my camera to edit them, but I didn't create these thumbnail versions. I'm not sure but it seems that some might be from images that I have siince deleted from my tablet.

I'm wondering how they got there and if maybe they were automatically generated by one of my programs, shah as snapssed, photo editor,or PS touch? And is it okay to delete them? Best, David. L

I used to have a .thumbnails folder there but I deleted it because it was taking up a huge amount of space. It hasn't come back since and there has been no ill effects, I think it might have been generated when my Nexus 7 was connected to my computer.

The thumbnails are created when you add a photo. I suspect that when you delete photos the related thumbnails do not necessarily get deleted with them as well.
