Why the wait for the reviews?

Got to thinking. This is kind of stupid to hold the reviewers to a NDA, then a specified release date/time. Who cares? Give the reviewers 72 hours with the devices and let them post their reviews. It is not going to affect sales one way or the other. Unless Google wants to copy the exact same procedures that Apple uses. Come on Google, you're better than that!!

It's all about building hype at the right time. If we had reviews already then the anticipation wouldn't be as great. You want to have an explosion of great information just before it comes out to build people up so that will spend the time to go out and buy it.

i want to get a professional review as the choice is big especially for that price

Other companies give reviewers opportunity befor release. Google should do that too.

Reviews could affect sales. Plus building up the hype before the phone hits the markets, so that you get overly excited, run out and buy the phone.

Would agree completely in a normal year. But with the Note 7 recall, some people reporting that the S7E is back ordered as well as the iphone 7 variants. This year or circumstance may be the time to break normal cycles of review/release? Never thought we would be back in a world where you cannot buy a $600+ device of choice w/o a long wait.

Agree. I am holding off until reviews come out. Phone looks nice, but I am really interested to see camera and battery.

Another thing is that if you don't give a release date for reviews there will be arms race to be the first blog/publication/website to publish a review. At least this way you make sure that reviewers take some time with the device

The only issue I have is if I'm ok with the smaller size after so many years of using larger screens (Note 4, MXPE, And recently N7).. I've ordered the pixel - but may have to exchange it for the XL if I can't get used to the smaller form factor...

I think overall the upcoming reviews will be positive - with knocks on the typical issues (IP rating, speakers) - but will also focus on the performance.. as most have indicated from their hands on during the press event the notable increase in overall smoothness of the device.

I read professional reviews to get the basic gist of how it all holds together. I wait for personal users to get real world data points.

Huge "misses" will cause me a moment for pause.
