Why Verizon has delayed the JellyBean 4.1 ota on the vzw Galaxy Nexus

I see my car salesman has found a new job working for Verizon Wireless!!!??? :)

He promised that I would get laid more often when I bought the BMW M5(off lease
with 14000 miles only) from him a couple of years ago. So far, it has not worked
out that way. :( Still waiting. (in fact, the people who seem to like my M5 the most
are my gay friends/co-workers, as well as my 84-year-old grandma) :(

To be fair he likely didn't say who you would be getting laid more by. Maybe you just need to switch teams. ;)

I recently contacted VZW about data problems (dropping 4G all the time), and got a voicemail from them stating that the issue is known by VZW and Samsung and that they are working on a patch to fix it, so I'm assuming that will probably all come with 4.1, might be part of the hold up.

Id be fine with them holding back just to make sure there are no problems but it seems almost every time an os update goes up there is problems anyway. Ics on the razrs is a disaster. I see lots of freezing and reboot problems. The nexus had problems too. The htc incredible update was screwed up too. Gingerbread on the droid x was messed up as well. Its infuriating that they take the time but still screw it up. Im looking forward to jellybean but im not going to be shocked when it screws up something on my phone.

There is just one HUGE glaring problem with your scenario...

Lots of people are already running this update, and it works just fine.

Yup. And those with 404 issues seem to be few.

I dunno, I'm just kind of bummed by this whole Nexus experience from the beginning. Verizon dragged its feet on the release and has dragged their feet on every update. I live in Florida and I got two updates....one on the day I bought it last December and the other about 6 months later. I am in no way an engineer but I honestly don't believe that it takes this long to put out a update. I just don't feel that its a big priority for them so the number of testers or resources they allocate is limited (my opinion). I guess there are pro's and con's with only having one phone like Apple but you have to admit its a very polished product with much respect from each carrier. My wife is eligible for an update so my plan is to give her my Nexus (hehe) and I would get the new Nexus...if and when it ever comes out. I just hope it has a better camera and specs. It still baffles me that Google doesn't reveal their "flagship" phone and OS around the same time Apple does so that people have to make a tough choice. Instead they let Apple do their thing and months later maybe we will get a rumor of a new device. They need to stage an event like Apple does and show off their new creation and make people want it.

I could not agree more. The initial version of ICS at rollout was a disaster. My Gnex is finally stable. Don't push jellybean if it is not ready. Due to my employer requiring me to use Good for work email I cannot root my phone and fix problems with a custom rom. I am 100% dependent on Verizon delivering a solid update.

What happens if you install an unrooted jelly bean AOSP ROM?

Perhaps for you, but I have not had any real issues with mine since day one. It's been a fully functional & reliable phone. I think my only complaint was a few random reboots when running 4.0.2

Since 4.0.4, and now rooted and running 4.1.1(Bugless Beast) she has been rock solid without a single issue.

I dont count rooting. Im only talking about the update verizon takes forever to release in order to make it perfect then when it comes out it screws the phone up.

Of course a rom is better because the devs know what they are doing.

I'm not talking about a rom. I'm talking about the actual leaked OTA that Verizon is testing. Plenty of people are running it and having no issues.

With the iPhone 5 coming out and the new razars soon coming this phone is on the back burner. Verizon could care less about getting an update to this phone.

So they're going to shelve an update that's already been leaked, already testing, and is probably just waiting for the final go ahead because of new products? New products get released every year. I'm sure Verizon doesn't have any personal feelings either way.

Verizon employees can't take vacation during iPhone release week lol. That's their priority. Everyone complaining here already bought a GNex. New customers, New contracts. Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money

if google truly cared one bit....they would enforce the hell out of the carriers to release jb update around the same time the ijunk is going to be shipped out. 09/21/12.

reason i say this is because for those who dont root or unlock for whatever reason (which there are countless reasons) they have something to look forward to and be able to "show off" to their ijunk friends and not worry about those people gloating that oh my ijunk does this and this and this while people stuck on ics or lower go oh ya cool...mine will be doing that...some day? darn i wish my phone did that, that looks cool i wonder if my phone can do that or will do that...oh well it looks like ijunk is way better than my phone now, ok cool time to switch. thus losing another android user.

this NEEDS to be highly enforced by google bc its ultimately THEIR product and its their reputation that looks bad making ijunk look superior. google should fine carriers somehow and be like look, we have the greatest and latest update available, implement it, asap. or else.

if jb isnt released by next week across all or most carriers. ijunk will sell another trillion phones and half of them will be those android users that are not into this rooting scene.

according to a VZW corporate store manager, the Galaxy Nexus may be on its way out... at Verizon Wireless anyway.
I'm not surprised, because at this VZW corporate store, the Galaxy Nexus display has recently been moved to a corner
where all the dumbphones are displayed. :(

then it looks like were gonna be introduced with the new gnex

It's just an "old" device. Verizon always does this. They need to make room for newer devices and probably won't carry the GNex in store, but will still offer them online.
Personally, I believe Verizon doesn't like the GNex. It has a long life span. If you update it yourself, you'll always be up with up to date updates. If they take their sweet time with updates, people who aren't into modding will start to think the gs3 and iPhone 5 look more appealing and up to date. They like phones to have a short life span, so people buy more.
Just a theory.

still not an excuse for them to delay the process. "old phone" or not, JB needs to be released across any capable android device starting with gnex and any phone thereafter ensuring consistency. the gnex will have a successor which will still need JB.

The EOL for the Gnex is october I believe. I'm kind of surprised their are no new leaks of Nexus phones, since Sony. LG and Samsung have been leaked for new nexus phones so far for this year. I was assuming that Verizon would release the JB update after they sell new phones with JB on it out of box to sell them first saying it comes with new os. And then release the update a month later after the sales gimmick.
