Why wont my phone work with the new T-Mobile sim card?

I bought an unlocked phone and used it for several months with qlink(sprint). Now with the new sim card(T-Mobile) my phone worked for about one day then stopped. They tell me I need to get sprint to unlock my phone to be able to use the T-Mobile sim. Sprint keeps giving me the runaround about unlocking the phone. They tell me qlink should unlock it. Anyone else having problems like this or know what to do?
 
What model phone did you buy? Was it branded by a carrier? Have you confirmed it's compatible with T-Mobile?

Sprint would not have locked the phone just because it was the first SIM installed in it.
