Why won't my Samsung Galaxy S4 mount/read my 2gb microsd?

Samsung Galaxy S4 will not mount/read 2gb microsd

I have a Samsung 2gb MicroSD card that was given to me by a friend. He said he inserted the card into his phone (he has an S4 active) and there was nothing on it, so I figured I could use it to hold all of my pictures/videos or music. When I inserted the card (while my phone was off, and then again when I turned it on), it will not read that there is a sd card inserted. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to Android Central! So are you saying your friend's phone didn't recognize the card either? SD cards don't last forever, so if it's really old, it might be dead.
