Why wont my screen light up when i receive a message on my glaxy s7?

Ive tried looking in all the settings possible and cant get the screen to light up for messages.

Did you look in Lockscreen and security>Notifications? Makes sure messages is checked on, as well as any other app you want to be notified of.

I tried doing what you suggested but still having issues all of my other applications will light up on the screen but messages will not. However it will vibrate when i receive them but the screen stay dark

Which messaging app are you using?

Just the regular messaging app that the phone came with

It's just funny because Snapchat will light up on the screen but no messages

Welcome to Android Central! You could try a 3rd party app like DynamicNotifications.
