Why would I have to do a soft reset to fix a no-charge?

My phone wasn't charging on the car charger on the way to work so I figured I had a bad charger. Got to work and my wall charger wasn't working either. Took the battery out for 10 seconds, rebooted the phone, and now it charges. Why do you think that would've happened?

I'm rooted running v4 Vicious JellyBean if that makes a difference. 1st time this has happened.

My phone did this to me yesterday with the wall charger. I think the phone said it was charging but the battery level didn't change. Had to reset it and then it started charging.

Had this problem back on 4.0.2 and had to exchange.

I had a similar issue last week but now my phone charges really slowly and hasn't been above 50% charged in a few days. I'm not sure if these two issues are related but any help would be appreciated.

I didn't have any problems with slow charging - it was all or nothing.
