Why would you NOT use the stock messaging app?

I like Textra but I don't care for the dated Material Design look... It looks like it hasn't changed from when I last used it on my LG G2.

Nothing wrong with the stock messaging app and I've been using it since day one. Might not have extra features but it looks clean and a solid performer.

Different colors.. fonts.. etc. Also some functionality. Such as I have it set to use MMS if it's over 160 characters.. therefore long SMS messages don't get split up by carriers since it'll send as a file with MMS.

I also like the quick reply function and the customization to how notifications work with Textra over stock.

To me that's worth the little I dished out for the app. I paid a few years ago.. just been enjoying it since then.

Choice is a good thing. Don't like stock, choose something else. You like stock, stick with it. If an app is good and you find it useful, don't whine about kicking a couple bucks to a developer. They put work in and if they don't get paid for that work, they won't develop better apps.

My wife and I both like Textra because you get the ability to reply to texts on the fly without having to unlock your phone. The text pops up on the lock screen and you reply and it's gone... No fuss no muss.

For me I actually prefer the stock app. I can use any background I choose, color, standard, custom photo, or Samsung theme of choice.

I prefer stock. Never was into Textra or any other messaging app. Stock is the best way to go for me. Does everything I need it to

I use, and have always used Next SMS. Great aftermarket app with a lot of control over design. One main reason i use it is that it keeps certain messages hidden and secure. Something i really needed, and it does it well. Also, it backs up my messages that i want backed up. Easily.

Verizon Message+ WAS the stock message app on my phone. I had to switch to the Google one because Message+ couldn't send to non-Verizon phones.

I swap back and forth between texting apps, because, well I don't know why I guess its nice to change up periodically. One of my standby go-to's is Verizon's Message+ and I have never had it not send to a non-Verizon phone. The only reason I don't use it all the time is, I don't like the way it looks.

Always using the stock message app. I always prefer the stock apps. Only using different app when I am on LineageOS, cuz I don't like the stock one.

I just like how textras quick response works. I can easily bang out a message as soon as I get it. plus dark theme.

I tried out a few but always end up back at textra

That's cool. I can't stand the stock reply. Quick reply is extremely useful for me and the multiple messages are way more important to me then a look.

For messages, am still using the stock, though I am seriously considering changing. For emails, yes, I used to love the stock, but I had a huge complaint with regards to exchange emails, where the outgoing emails are defaulted to Times New Roman and 12pt size. Finally I had changed to Nine that allows me to configure that. I suppose, it all boils down to what one wants.

I don't use stock cause it doesn't support GIF's from Gboard. Been using signal it's lite, fast, and simple to use. Also has a good dark theme.

If this was ever true, it is no longer true. Since I've been using Verizon Message+ (3.5 years+), you can send/receive to/from any phone/tablet on any carrier, using either cell data OR wi-fi. And what's more, people with phones (Android or iOS) from other carriers can also install and use Verizon Message+ on their devices. You don't have to be a Verizon customer to use it. Just install it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Ah yep forgot that stock can't even handle the insertion of GIF messages. That is another positive for using another :).

Choice is the key - even if my choice is stock. To each their own.

Anyone know of an SMS app that can send mms over WiFi on T-Mobile?

This is a partial answer to your question....Textra has a built in function that will switch off your wifi, send the MMS, and then switch it back on. It works good for me, but if you're somewhere where you have no cell service or don't want to use your data, then it's still a problem.
