Why?

Congratulations for the dumbest thread I've read since joining AC.

Why is this such a big deal to you???

It's not...but I cared enough to ask. I was considering getting a One and those were my only questions and concerns. I wanted a new toy. Today I realized my Note 8.0, which has been laggy since I got it, deserves to be replaced more than my perfectly working phone. So HTC need not bother with me.

Are any of us not looking for the device(s) best suited to us? And curious about the strengths and perceived shortcomings of the device?

I wanted a new toy.

well let me introduce you to Gator352 wife- problem solved..

My wifes play thing is all plastic (with a rubber type coating) but the control knob is metal. Should we return it? I'm afraid she's going to "zap" herself on the knob when it gets wet......

The center peice in the middle is some type of plastic I have the silver one

Agreed. I can't believe that people after all this time believe that there is no plastic trim on this phone. It boggles the mind.

never knew plastic was this big a deal.

That's your perspective. Had I not asked the question I wouldn't have the answer. It's for the antennas. I didn't know that. Read my initial post. I have no problem with the plastic. I took issue with it being marketed as "All metal". The gaps I actually saw in the store were real, to note them is trolling?

To others, yes I may purchase one knowing I can return it. ...unless I prefer it. It costs $700 and I don't think it affects their bottom line.

You're probably right. I mean, they sell the phone for $700 to you - get to use your money for two whole weeks! Then you return it for no reason. Then they get to sell it a 2nd time! After they refurbish the phone of course.

Not a big fan of your personal ethics.

I've been working for over 21 years and make 6 digits. I have a career, not a job. You need to consider not trolling.

I really don't believe that you need to be.

However, following is a perspective.

Many carriers provide refurbished or lightly used phones as warranty replacements as opposed to brand new manufacturer-sealed equipment. Nothing I can do is going to affect that. So if I had proceeded I would have been adding to that pool of equipment. The eventual recipient of that phone, that I had temporarily used, would be getting a device maintained in pristine condition that, while in my possession, would have either been in its original packaging or the Otterbox Defender I would have also "leased". Upon return, both the Otterbox and the phone would be cleaned and returned to new condition. I'm anal about keeping things in my possession in as new a condition as possible (I've always been that way). When I've sold electronics in the past, as I quite often do, I am usually told that they're indeed in mint condition.

So, while some may not agree with my purchasing an item knowing I may more than likely return it, I won't and don't damage or mistreat any product, just the opposite in fact.

If one is to end up with something I've previously held chances are the item is in exceedingly pristine condition. This is not written to alter your perception, I have no need or motivation to do that. I'm just providing more information.

... I was initially intrigued by the all metal design and saw all the talk about its "Premium" look and feel. But once I got my hands on it and saw the various gaps and the plastic strips (which I knew were for the antennas), I just didn't get the premium feeling at all. I then lost all interest in it after playing with the software and the button setup....
This.

I went to see the a black one again at Best Buy. It's a nice phone but after seeing it again and reading what I have I had no desire to investigate further, or purchase. My curiosity in regards to this device has absolved completely. Again, I appreciate everyone that was helpful and even those that weren't.

all this is just too funny coming from an all plastic laggy S4 owner.....

I understand that you're now trolling but I'll bite as I take a break from setting up my new tablet (which I love thank goodness).

As explained earlier, I believe in keeping any phone I have in a case. I need the peace of mind of knowing I'm doing what I can to keep it pristine. With a plastic-backed phone there's even more reason for me to do so. Do I prefer plastic over aluminum? H*** no. Who really, honestly, does? I love my phone's super-fast performance enough to overlook the "con" in build materials as I'm also very happy with the build quality (the quality of assembly, to clarify). I've read that some S4 owner's, on some planet, in some solar system, in some galaxy, in some universe have experienced some lag. That stinx for them. Really, it does. No, really. I don't deal with lag, at all...I'm just not that patient...which is why my Note 8.0 is now for sale after 1.5 months. Now, it's been very clearly explained. My phone has never been laggy...ever. Never, ever. Ever. Perhaps I am the only one.

They're only phones people and I apologize if you or anyone else felt insulted by my inquiries. Your responses seem to point to your having felt that way or are you typically snide in public forums? I'm confident the moderators would write if I were being offensive. I don't believe I've insulted anyone. Even though I consistently noted that I thought the One was nice hardware you seem intent on making snide comments. I'm sorry but I won't respond in kind if that's what you seek. It's a phone we're discussing not anyone's personal cleanliness. Have I questioned anyone's intelligence? Do tell. An S4 owner can't question why an ad says something they disagree with? Is there another location in AC where my question should have been threaded?

It seems the original discussion was completed, and that we're now just veering off topic and getting personal. I'm closing this one up.
