So I switched 2 months ago from the fascinate to the X because i was fed up waiting for the update. But now that the fascinate got the update I can't help but notice my wife's fascinate so darn faster and snappier than my X. I mean there is a difference. No lag and things move around very smooth. My X not so. I'm not saying the X is garbage, no it still has the best phone audio quality from any phone, like almost being on a land line..really. But the lag on this thing is not getting better.

What are you running on your X? Don't you dare say stock Froyo either! If so, it's your own fault for leaving it up to Motorola's rom lol. I'm running Gingerbread with Apex 2.0 on it and it's running better than it ever has. It would rip a stock Fascinate a new hole when it comes to speed.

Yes stock froyo. I'm just not very comfortable rooting. My wife has froyo stock and it runs so much better.

I am on Froyo rooted, and my device is smooth and fast. You might want to consider a "spring cleaning". Do some basic maintenance/troubleshooting.

Can you give us some more detail as to how it "runs better" so that we can see if we can come up with some possible solutions?

By faster and better I mean her fascinate just feels snappier. Transitions are smooth. Apps open immediately. My X takes it a few seconds to open anything.

Ok... 1) The Fascinate has a much better (possibly the best) GPU than the DX so transitions and animations are going to look smoother and 2) The actual transitions and animations on the Fascinate are completely different than the ones on the DX so a direct comparison is not really possible.

One way you can mess with the animations on the DX is by rooting and downloading an app called spare parts - it'll allow you to speed up or slow down the animations or turn them off if you'd like.

I still think its crappy that you have to root a phone to make it work properly :(. Sometimes I spend all day fixing systems at work and really just want a phone that works perfectly you know?

Your phone works properly, its just slower. Big difference.

Actually it doesn't work properly - random reboots, certificate issues with exchange email etc - and every time I ask the question about how to fix it - its always use a 3rd party app, or root your phone to fix something.

I do work in IT so I have no problem rooting a device (general hacking - which I had loads of fun doing in high school 10 years ago), but honestly after fixing machines and systems all day I have one simple rule - the stuff I have paid for really just needs to work.

Gingerbread will fix all of the above.

Spare parts is an app that you fine tune your device to how you want it to behave. try it it made some difference in my phone.

That is why the iphone is the best smart phone out there. It just works right out of the box. You can argue all you want but thats a fact. I'm not saying anything bad about android. But the answer to any problem with android is"just root your phone" and your problem will go away. Well ok, I don't want to root. Whats the use of having a smart phone when this or that app is slowing it down. Really? Anyways, loving my X guys, just saying thats all. Have to vent once in a while:p

Not to be too defensive, but I have to disagree. I do not NEED to root my device for it to work properly... I root my device because I WANT to. I have never had any issues with my DX (that were not caused by something I did to it).

I recommended the guy root his phone and download spare parts to give him away to mess with the transitions and animations because he was unhappy with the transitions and window animations. The fact is that the transitions and animations are working perfectly... he just doesn't like them... and maybe he should have figured that out in his 30 days and traded it in for something else.

A few seconds is a long time. If it takes that long to launch most apps, then there is either something you've installed that is severely hampering your phone or your phone has some internal hardware issue that should be dealt with. But I'll assume what you mean by seconds is that it just isn't as snappy as the fascinate and that I can't really speak to.

For what it's worth, I've been running stock Froyo since Verizon's last update an eternity ago and my phone is fantastic. Battery life is great and phone is smooth for the most part. I will notice some lag sometimes when scrolling through my contacts, but we're talking a stutter, not "seconds" of freezing.

And what should also be said is that root is not needed to use Spare Parts.

well the extra second of delay really does matter to some. personally i think everything about the fascinate is ass from the horizontal app drawer screens (reminds me too much of an iSh_t) to Bing-everything, so the delay is definitely worth having blur or sense, but ive noticed much of what u dislike can be fixed without root by utilizing launcher pro as well as a task manager. although droids run without app killers, they are indeed snappier with one and the little delay goes away when u kill background apps

Wrong. many iphone difficulties are solved by "just jailbreak it." and the phone doesn't "just work" out of the box. have u ever had a frequently contacted friend with an iphone? it's impossible to hold phone conversations with them. the calls will either not go through at all, will drop sporatically, or will have poor sound quality. sure, the phone appears to be all set up out of the box, but that's because every iphone looks exactly the same with no ability to customize, alter, or enhance any aspect without "just jailbreaking it." Loving my X too, have to rebut vents once in a while. /end rant
