Wifi HotSpot works on Std ROM! no root needed

Create your own APN and set your phone to use this one.

APN=wap.cingular
Proxy=wireless.cingular.com
Port=80
Uname=WAP@CINGULAR.COM
PW=CINGULAR1
MMS Protocol=WAP 2.0
MCC=310
MNC=410

Reboot the phone and now you can turn on wifi hotspot without calling AT&T to activate.

I have done this on my non rooted inspire and it works.

Seems to work. I have some glitches. Seems like the latest one was after a few mins, the connection had to be cycled in order for me to be able to surf again.

Someone told me if you do this without a custom ROM, AT&T can track yuou tethering without a tether plan and add it to your bill..

I tried this and while it worked it started sending old text messages to everyone in my phonebook. I dont know if this has anything to do with adding a APN or what but its annoying

Do you have to be in a 3G/4G area to be able to use it as a hotspot? I live on a farm waaaay out there, 3G is a mythical thing.
