WiFi only?

Hi everyone -- haven't been able to find an answer to this.

I like having WiFi, mostly for the places that VZW isn't available, AKA airplanes. Obviously, you can leave WiFi on so you can still e-mail, surf, etc. However, I cannot find a way to kill the wireless network while still leaving WiFi on.

I can see how to turn Airplane mode on, but that turns off all radios, including the WiFi radio. You can also disable "Mobile" but that only kills data services. The Droid still operates as a phone and receive txt/pix/flix messages.

Any help here? I'd rather not leave the mobile network on in an airplane ...

APNDroid will turn CDMA on and off. Available in the marketplace. I also use the Wifi widget to turn it on and off.

no need for an App

the built in communications manager can do this for you

from the home screen hit menu.
go to settings
go to wireless controls
go and uncheck mobile network

this only shuts off the verizon internet
you can still text receive calls and have WIFI

This disables your wifi (your phone and your 3G), and you can not turn on your wifi again (which is what you can do on an iphone)

You can also set up a shortcut on your home screen to do this
hit the + button on the bottom of your home screen
hit HTC widget
hit settings
hit Mobile network

But as you mention, this does not disable your phone service, which one might want from time to time (ie you are in a foreign country and either there is no CDMA coverage and you do not want your phone wasting battery life looking for service, or there is non verizon CDMA coverage and you do not want to chalk up an outrageous phone bill from 6 recieved text messages).
