WIFI Router not showing up

I was installing a set of new HP Wireless access points the other day with another engineer. Although we could both see them on our HP and Lenovo laptops running windows 7 just fine, I could not see them at all on my Incredible. I am running Froyo. I could see other routers in the businesses next to this one but not ours. He was using WEP and WPA2 for encryption. Is there any reason that some one can think of that would cause it to not show up under wireless networks (or under wifi analyzer)?

Thanks.

It's a long shot, but you might want to check if the router or access point is set to "invisible mode". Normally that is not the default option, but if enabled you won't see the router unless you manually enter the SSID. At home I have my router setup that way to hide my network from the neighbors. Then in my wireless setting I manually enter the information and set to "remember network".

No they are not hidden. We checked that. Also they do show up on our computers. Just not on the Incredible phone? I have several routers set up on my phone that work great. Guess I was wondering what the specs would need.

For example:
A/B/G/N should all work?
Security Compatibility? Wep/WPA/WPA2 (enterprise or Personal)
Length of the SSID name maybe?

Just curious.

Good question. My home router doesn't support N and I have it setup as WPA2 with a 9 character SSID. Sorry I can't be of more help.

If you're on 2.2 you'll be able to see N broadcasts. In Android 2.1 802.11g was the fastest supported.

It might be different with the new versions, but I remember reading about older versions of Android not playing nicely with WPA/WPA2 Enterprise. You might want to make sure that it is set to Personal. Still, that shouldn't prevent you from seeing the network, just connecting to it.

Did you try manually typing in the SSID and "forcing" it to connect?

Are these routers on the 2.4ghz band? If so what channel? If it's 12 or 13 that might be it. Are the routers broadcasting multiple SSIDs? That could also impact it I suppose. My phone doesn't play nice with dual SSID setups

Download the app wifi analyzer from the market and see if they show up.

Good call sevin8nin! I forgot I was having issues with my phone dropping the connection when setting to a high channel when I first got it. I have since moved to a lower channel and don't have the issue anymore. It'd be worth checking out.

I don't think the radios in the DInc support 5 Ghz. Are you using N?

Yeah I believe it uses Dual Band N right? 2.4Ghz?

Yeah my phone did not want to work on a channel any higher than 9 or 10. But then again neither did my laptop....router or something else humm....you guys are going to make me do networking today lol.
