WiFi sleeps when device is locked!

Now on frf91 (909kb ota update from frf85b) and still same wireless issue

Google does not read this board.

Go into the Nexus One help forums and post this stuff.

Are you trying to get sleep mode never to work?

I have the same problem with my newly bought N1
wifi connection just disconnects whenever the phone goes to sleep regardless of the wifi policy setting.
I requested refund already and am gonna order another one and see if anything changes.

Son of a crap, now my WiFi sleep policy is no longer working. I have avoided this problem for months now, and this latest froyo no longer works. My WiFi turns off. I hate this, it kills battery. Damn it Google.

so it worked before? you think it's the problem with software?

I guess its software. I know I've never had this problem, I specifically checked so many times, and now after the upgrade its turning off when the phone is idle. I'm sure it has to be software.

My wifi policy is set to "never" and the phone been sleeping for ~2 hours now. I can confirm it's pingable with 0% loss from other PCs on the same network.

I also receive the Gmail notifications within 5 secs of appearing on the web interface.

One tip though that might made difference, after upgrading to 85 and then 91, I selected the another wifi policy and then reselected "never". Maybe that helps?

1) I have Tomato firmware installed on my router; thus, under Tools > ping.
2) Using Windows, command prompt and ping command.

Of course I'm pinging the N1's local IP 192.168.1.xxx

With the phone sleeping for few hours even (the screen is off), I'm getting 0% loss which means no packet loss.

Is your N1 on T-Mobile or AT&T?

It's with Fido, a sister company to Rogers in Canada. Both are comparable to AT&T in terms of network specifications. But what does this have to do with the carrier?

Nothing to do with the carrier, simply trying to determine which model of N1 we are talking about.

To revive this thread for those people having this problem:

There is a bug in the broadcom wifi driver in Android. Broadcom submitted a patch at the end of July, but since Google hasn't pushed out an update, that doesn't help you if you are running stock Android (Eclaire, or Froyo).

The problem is this: On a Nexus One, Wifi will stop accepting packets when the screen turns off, regardless of your wifi sleep policy, if the first byte of your MAC address is not 00. (Mine is 38)

If you don't want to wait until Google pushes out an update, the patch is in CyanogenMod 6. This problem was the catalyst to get me to root and install CM6, and as soon as I did, I started getting the correct "wifi never sleeps" behavior.

Great info to have ETarpon...

I ran into another user who had this problem. I didn't have it (my first byte is 00) and we were never able to figure out why he had it and I didn't.

He eventually returned the phone because of this.

If I had this bug I would root in a heartbeat.

Is the N1 the only phone using broadcom, or does this affect other phones as well?

I think the Desire may have the same problem, since it's basically the same phone.

But again, only on phones with non-00 first byte MACs. I think that's what made it so hard to verify, since anybody with a 00 MAC had no problems and often blew off those of us who did. ;-)

Glad I found this thread ...... this problem has been driving me mad for weeks
I even started rooting my handset last night but that's another painful story

Now to find the update for froyo :-)

Several testers on XDA confirmed this. My phone used to intermittently hang for few seconds when I unlock it especially if it recently switched to 3G and then back to Wifi.

I'm not seeing this issue so far.

Hey guys, thanks to everyone for this informative thread. Basically I'm having a problem similar to this although I don't think it's exactly the same. I set my wifi sleep policy to never, but after a while when my phone screen has been turned off and locked, I'll turn on the screen to find I have no wifi connection.

When I check my wifi settings, it states my wifi radio is turned on, and my wifi network is working but under the status it says, "disabled." The only way to reestablish a connection is to disconnect from the wifi network then reconnect, or just reset my wifi radio. I've seen this happen on a few different router brands, from Belkin to Linksys to Cisco, some were password protected and some were not.

Normally this is not a major issue, but I'm currently using a plan with no data, so when my wifi sleeps, my phone has no internet access. Was wondering what you guys think I should do. This has been happening since my last update to newest build of froyo, FRG83D, but strangely when I first got froyo with the earlier builds, it wasn't an issue. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
