Wifi speeds decreasing after 5-10 mins?

When you did your tests were they all done with the phone in the same position?

I noticed a big difference with one test when it was laying flat on a couch, and as soon as I picked it up the phone snapped back into it and went back to normal.

Those RF windows on the back are there for a reason, so how you're doing it will make a huge difference.

Ok I feel like a complete idiot lol. It was always laying flat down on my desk. I like to have it in front of my keyboard. Just ran another test and it was normal. But anyway, they still need a radio update.

Don't feel like an idiot! It takes some getting used to having a phone with antennae like this. I had an iPhone 4 so I'm used to being really careful about how I use my phones. I was hoping HTC had learned Apple's lesson and had built in some secondary antennae just in case, but I guess not.

Think its more if a hardware flaw. I mean, the back cover is the antenna. Not the greatest. Though a radio update that allows to differentiate 3G/4G would be awesome

I was just worried my phone was defective. At least I know I can set it down now and not worry lol. I really hope they address the antenna with an update and soon. But people with the Sensation are experiencing extremely slow speeds on it. That is the biggest issue.

Yeah if you read the case thread, people has said how it drops sometimes.

Yeah I read that but didn't give it too much insight. Now that I'm aware of this issue I'm ok with it. I really hope the OTA update we are getting resolves this too.

I've noticed this since I got the phone the other day. I'm connected to wifi and for the first couple of minutes my wifi speeds are what they should be which are around 15-18mbps. Then after about 5 or 6 minutes maybe a little more the download speeds decrease to around .80mbps. Upload speeds remain the same.

Can others test this out.

Connect to wifi
Then run a speedtest via the speedtest app which is available in the market
Then put your phone down for several minutes
Then run another test and see what you get

Doesn't always happen right away but more frequently when the wifi connection is being used. HTC definitely has some bugs with the Sensation. Hopefully they'll be addressed sooner rather than later.

Apparently its an easy fix:

Hope that helps. I am getting my sensation today and can't wait! Hurry up UPS!!!

I haven't tested it yet, but I may have experienced this. I have Fios, using the standard Verizon supplied router. Connected to WiFi I was watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO Go on my couch. Put the phone down for a little while, and went upstairs to finish watching the last episode I was watching. But The show kept stalling, as if the connection was bogged down. My connection was switching back and forth from 4G to WiFi, which was weird. Never happened to me on the Nexus One.

Like I said, this may have just been a flaky connection or some other sort of interference anomaly. But I'll definitely keep an eye on this.

I don't think the antenna problem is able to be resolved with a software update. It is a hardware issue not a software issue.

That's what I was saying. Maybe they could boost the signal a bit by making draw more power? Meh.

The wifi speeds were crappy this morning after a soft reset even though I wasn't holding it wrong lol.

Well this certainly made a noticeable difference at my apartment. Before I tried this fix, I would have no service at all from the time I entered the parking garage. Then I would have to use wifi calling in my place. After applying this fix, I can still get 1 bar of 4G in my place and at least a few bars of 2G everywhere else including the parking garage. I just did an 18 minute call in my place without wifi calling enabled. Nice.

Ok I have been able to replicate this issue. I am connected to WI-FI and then when I send an MMS or whenever the G shows to the left of the signal bar my WI-FI cuts down to .85mbps. It happens every single time I send an MMS. I live in an extremely poor area for data coverage. Here its GPRS/EDGE. So those who reported this, see if "G" appears to your signal and then do a speed test immediately afterwards. The resolution of course is turn WI-FI off then back on.
