I'm not sure if this has been answered yet but the hotspot is indeed free. I work for Verizon and I looked into this and it said on the nexus it is free. For all other 4G phones with grandfathered unlimited data its an additional 30 for unlimited tethering.

I am totally confused by this thread.
I have GN (unrooted). Unlimited data plan.
Can I use this Switch pro widget to tether (without being charged).
Do I need to buy this Switch pro app? I dont' see it under widget already in my phone.
What i want to know is now that i have this...does it count against my monthly 4 gig data plan? On the verizon widget...the data meter has not moved despite loading webpages for 30 min just now.
Does anyone know if it counts against ur data?
Yes, it counts against your data. However, the verizon widget will not accurately show you that. Try logging onto your VZW account through Cell Phones - Smartphones: Cell Phone Service, Accessories - Verizon Wireless and monitor your data that way. What i want to know is now that i have this...does it count against my monthly 4 gig data plan? This is a cool feature. If I couldn't find a way to get it free on the Razr Maxx I'd be all over the Nexus. I assume this is still working for everyone???
This "illegal" way you're tethering is using data from your phone's data plan, your 4gb one. If you were legitimately tethering, you'd have a separate plan from Verizon. Since you're not on unlimited, I'd keep an eye on your data. The reason the Verizon data meter hasn't moved is because it is not officially being monitored by Verizon.

It's not only not illegal, it is not a breach of contract. The phone is working just as it is designed to work.People are so quick to throw around the word illegal. Its not illegal man.
LOL Reeeelax everyone. Did you not notice the quotes I put around "Illegal"?
Everyone is so quick to pick a fight!
