WiFi Tether on VZW GN - What Did I Just Stumble Upon?

I'm not sure if this has been answered yet but the hotspot is indeed free. I work for Verizon and I looked into this and it said on the nexus it is free. For all other 4G phones with grandfathered unlimited data its an additional 30 for unlimited tethering.

Please provide the link that confirms this.

I am totally confused by this thread.
I have GN (unrooted). Unlimited data plan.

Can I use this Switch pro widget to tether (without being charged).

Do I need to buy this Switch pro app? I dont' see it under widget already in my phone.

Somehow I think that if this were true, then we'd be able to enable the feature through the normal process, and not have to download a 3rd party app.

Yes you can use Switcher Pro widget to tether and not be charged.

Yes you need to purchase the app, it is not pre installed on your phone. Or you can use this free widget that works just as well. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.taiseiko.tetherWidget&feature=search_result&rdid=com.taiseiko.tetherWidget&rdot=1&pli=1

What i want to know is now that i have this...does it count against my monthly 4 gig data plan? On the verizon widget...the data meter has not moved despite loading webpages for 30 min just now.
Does anyone know if it counts against ur data?

This "illegal" way you're tethering is using data from your phone's data plan, your 4gb one. If you were legitimately tethering, you'd have a separate plan from Verizon. Since you're not on unlimited, I'd keep an eye on your data. The reason the Verizon data meter hasn't moved is because it is not officially being monitored by Verizon.

Yes, it counts against your data. However, the verizon widget will not accurately show you that. Try logging onto your VZW account through Cell Phones - Smartphones: Cell Phone Service, Accessories - Verizon Wireless and monitor your data that way.

Paying for tethering is like paying for gps. I am on an Alltel plan and I could tether on my old windows phone and then was forced to go Verizon (still on my Alltel plan till this day) and now I should pay for it.

My plan is the Alltel family share 55 plan, still is on my GNex. Nights start at 7, unlimited 10 friends and family calls and unlimited text and data for $89. I literally have the best plan on the planet and :-)

...just sayin

This is a cool feature. If I couldn't find a way to get it free on the Razr Maxx I'd be all over the Nexus. I assume this is still working for everyone???

threads about tethering always seem to end up in a moral/ethical/ legal debate.

Wish I could provide a link but unfortunately its an internal Verizon link. But obviously if no one has been charged for it its true. We don't advertise it to customers and do u honesty think Verizon would make it that easy for you to activate it. When I get back to work ill try to snap a photo of the info but I can't make guarantees. But all I know is its part of being a nexus .. Google's policy on phone. Again though its only available to those with 29.99 unlimited data plan.
