WiFi Troubleshooting

try settings/wireless&networks/wi-fi settings, I usually just have to open this menu then it will finally connect, if i don't it just sits on obtaining adress

I hope this helps others!!!

Holy Crap! I got it working. I've been on rock solid for 24-hours straight - not a singled hiccup! I have tried virtually every magic setting and silver bullet recommended on this site and several others and nothing worked. I could always connect with a very strong signal but would be bounced off within a few seconds/minutes. I turned on the logging in my router and reviewed my errors after being kicked off. I then googled my error and found a recommendation (that didn't have anything to do with the Droid X). Someone was complaining they were always getting knocked off their wireless and someone posted this recommendation.

I have a DLink DIR-655 and here are my settings. I assume other manufactureres will have similar settings.

Make these settings on the router:

Under Advanced --> QOS engine --> QOS engine setup:
Uncheck Dynamic Fragmentation

Under Advanced --> Advanced Wireless -->Advanced Wireless Settings:
Uncheck Short GI

Under Advanced --> Wi-Fi Protected Setup:
Uncheck enable

Under Advanced --> Secure Spot:
Uncheck Enable Securespot services

Under Setup --> Internet --> Manual Internet Connection Setup:
Uncheck Enable Advanced DNS Service

Under Setup --> Network Settings --> Router Settings:
Uncheck Enable DNS Relay

Under Setup --> Network Settings --> DHCP Server Settings:
Check Always Broadcast

Under Setup --> Wireless Settings --> Manual Wireless Network Setup:
Set 802.11 Mode to Mixed n,g,b
Check Enable Auto Channel Scan
Set Transmission rate to Best (automatic)
Set channel width to Auto 20/40
security mode to WPA personal
Set Visibility Status to visible

Under Wireless Security Mode set:
Set Security mode WPA-Personal
Set WPA Mode to WPA2 Only
Cipher type AES
Pre-Shared Key is required

I followed your suggestions and tweaked for my router. The big changer for me is the network visibility. After making sure I increased my phrase and security:

Buffalo WHR-G300N - DD-WRT 12255
SSID - Visible
Network - Mixed
Channel - Auto (hate this)
WPA2 - AES
Disable CTS, Enable Frame Burst
Tx Power - 28
QoS - Disabled (my choice, not going to configure to test yet)

USRobotics Model 8054 [USR8054]

Just posting for posterity:

USRobotics Model 8054 [USR8054] works but is a bit choppy. Speed tests are acceptable, however browsing is slow to load pages initially and seems to balk. I have it set as follows (I'm rural, so rogue war-drivers aren't a concern) :

* Enable SSID broadcasting
* Turn off MAC address filtering
* Turn off encryption
* Disable 802.11 mixed mode (tried mixed then G only)

Firmware
Version 1.67b44

My other Linksys routers are working fine with the DX however.

I have a NETGEAR Rangemax Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (WNDR3700), and I'm having zero issues. I've turned encryption off, MAC address filtering turned on, and broadcast SSID off. I have about 5 devices connected to it at any given time.

I have the same router and have tried these settings among others. Here's the problem I have:

My phone stays connected, but after a few different requests for data over Wi-Fi, the download just halts. I downloaded Speedtest.net app from the market and while my PC's can continually get ~20MB downloads and 3MB upload, the Droid X gets ~3kb to 50kb downloads (YES kb/s) Sometimes it registers -0. If I send a refresh signal to the modem (via Comcast) it fixes it, or if I try about 3 speedtests in a row it fixes it.

Is this normal? I have 1 day within my 30 day window to return the device. Is this a hardware issue or software issue or ???

Hey Guys,

I have Verizon FIOS and I noticed today that if I do not touch my phone for 15-20 minutes it disconnects me from the wireless network. Is this to conserver battery? If I am actively using my phone then I will not lose my Connection.

Model of router is: MI424WR-GEN2

This happens no matter what the security is on the router and with MAC authentication on and off. I've tried all the settings

Don't have issues anywhere else (have only had the phone a couple of days so I may and just not know it).

Thanks for the help!

Has Anyone Else Tried This?

I am running a WDS Network at home powered by one Apple Airport Extreme and two Airport Expresses to cover my whole house. I was having problem staying connected to my network on my Droidx. while setting up DLNA on my Droidx i found a Setting under DLNA/Settings/Wi-Fi Lock. After checking the Wi-Fi lock i have not had anymore problems staying connected to my network and havnt noticed any more power usage then normal. also my network is wpa/wpa2 802.11n (b and g compatible). i hope this helps at least some of the Droidx owners.

This works 100% of the time for me on my home router. The Seimens one at work it automatically does this with zero problems (no security however on the connection - relies on Impulse Safe Connect).

Does anyone know where there's an official bug report process for this phone? Support doesn't seem to know how to file bugs.

Using Netgear WPN824 v2 Rangemax and put all settings to those recommended for v3 except for WMM unchecked since there is no option that corresponds to this with v2. My X connects but after being idle for a while, the connection is lost. I have to open the wifi settings and obtain a new ip address. I have wifi connection setting set to never turn off on my phone. Just wondering if anyone has a fix for the router or a suggestion for a setting on my phone that I may have missed.

For those with WiFi issues, do you have your phone connected to a Bluetooth source?

I was having crummy WiFi on both by G and N networks last night and was playing with settings. When the phone was connected to our Bluetooth cordless phone I'd get crummy WiFi. Drop that connection and it's perfect on both G and N.

Still doing more testing on N but I wonder if this is an issue.....

Does anyone know if the wifi issues are fixed in froyo? I'm not using wifi in my house because after 5-10 mins of being connected my wifi stops working and i get timeouts when I try to go to sites. Never had any issues with any other devices. I have the fios actiontec router.

I also have the WRT54G (soon to be replaced). Fv1.02.5. I never had a problem connecting the X with Hidden SSID and use WPA TKIP. The issue I find is the drops the WIFI connection randomly. My sleep policy is set to 'Never', so its not that. I hope this fix this.

I'm running a D-Link DWL-2100AP access point with a Samsung Fascinate (2.1). AP settings:

SSID broadcast: disabled
Channel 6
Firmware 2.10
Auth/security: WPA-Auto-PSK

It seems the phone will only connect to/see the AP if I enable SSID broadcast. WiFi Analyzer sees the network whether or not it's broadcasting.

Airlink101 675W Router

Airlink101 675W router (with WiFi n)--extremely poor connectivity fixed by upgrading firmware from 1.0 to the latest--1.19. Connection speed, stability and throughput are fantastic after the update.

When DX's have a problem connecting to previously well-functioning routers without having to make drastic changes in settings, my suspicion is that the router firmware is at fault. If the router firmware is fully up to date, then get a router that's known to function perfectly with the DX (such as the one mentioned here).

I was having issues where all wireless devices would get bumped off the network.
multiple laptops
2 droid x's
linksys wrt54gl
running wpa2 / aes

I switched it to wpa/wpa2 personal and
tkip/aes
have not had a single problem since. (going into day 3 now)
I'm guessing the dx's (froyo) had issue with wpa2/aes

I know there was an issue with the wifi's on the dx with the netgear router model wndr3700 , they(motorola admited to breaking it on their forum even ).

I don't know if anyone has a vizio router...but I just got one and I could obtain an address and connect to the router but all webpages were timed out.

My current configuration which is working is

NETWORK MODE - MIXED
SSID BROADCAST - ON
SECURITY MODE - WPA2 PERSONAL
ENCRYPTION - TKIP OR AES

And I connected using WPS and using the code which is given on the router site.

I was having similar problem: wifi kept connecting and then disconnecting. My solution: reboot wireless router...unplug power to router for 3 minutes...plug back in. When router finishes recycling, BOOM...problem solved!
Haven't had a random disconnect in several days since I "rebooted" wireless router.
