Android Central Question

I was up until 2am using my phone
(it's a Samsung Galaxy A71 5G) scrolling through social media and then went to bed. When I woke up, my phone wouldn't turn on, I don't remember shutting it down so I thought the battery died. I charged it for around 2 hours, but the screen was still black. I asked one of my tech friends about t and they said the LCD was broken (I may have laid on it when I was asleep). We're planning to take it to the service center to get an LCD replacement, but I'm worried about my files stored in there. I'm a student and I use my phone for everything, from screenshots to homework to important videos. I've heard some people say that when getting an LCD replacement, you'd have to factory reset it. My files aren't backed up whatsoever, it stored right in the phone itself.

Welcome to Android Central.

Samsung is known for having some of the best but most fragile LCDs. I could easily imagine rolling over and putting pressure on the display.

In the meantime having the screen replaced doesn't usually cause any memory loss. If there are no other issues replacing the screen should not involve a factory reset or affect any of the memory components.

Best wishes.

True, having a screen replaced shouldn't result in data loss, but it depends on exactly what is broken. The way you worded it sounds like your friend made that suggestion without looking at the phone personally. When you take it to the shop, describe the symptoms and ask them to diagnose it first. If you go in and straight up ask for a screen replacement, they may happily replace your screen and not bother diagnosing the root cause. If it's something like a fried motherboard (which can result in data loss), they may give it back without bothering to address that and waste your money.
