will people really shell out almost $1,000 for a Pixel XL with 128gb? ($947 after tax)

What happens when you upgrade to a different Google phone or even an iPhone after having used Google Photos to back all your photos up on your Pixel? Will they be available to download to a different device in the future?

If they are treating it like the drive space promos for Chromebooks then what happens is you can still access the files and data you just can add to them..

With the phone it might be a little different... I assume they'd still allow compressed uploads (like they do now with Google Photos) but you would not be able to upload high res. All the ones you previously uploaded would be available to view and / or download..

That's my best guess..

I wonder if Verizon's exclusive was a big payday for Google, hence why they did it, but furthermore is the reason for the hefty price tag. To recoup some of the $$$.

Well_ if they like pixel then they can shell out even more

I think they will just provide it like a background drive for photos. And a different app like android gallery for photos...

Re: will people really shell out $869 for a Pixel XL with 128gb?

I enjoy all me tech until I sell it. :)

Homeslice, you seem to talking a lot about something you hate or dislike. Also, yes, it appears that A LOT of people will. Seeing how the phone keep selling out.

What I said was the phone is trash as the current price point. I never said I didn't like it. Fact check before you try and call someone out.

Hey if people want to buy this phone for almost a grand more power to them. I'm sure most will return before 14 days are up and to the ones that don't, I think you for subsidizing my future purchase at a deep discount. Just take care of my phone until then.

actually, you need to thank the people who are sitting this one out
and forcing Google to come to its senses and lower the price of
the Pixel phone.

You've stated the bolded part 16.947 times already.. We completely understand your thoughts on the matter...

I paid $650 for mine.. I don't count sales tax and the expedited shipping.. Why? Well everything is taxed and nobody made me pay $18 smack-a-roos for overnight shipping.. My phone was $650 which is nowhere even close to the 1K that you also continually mention...

Anywho added to block list..

Not going to happen, sorry....

I know what I posted and it was for the person who tried to say I said I didn't like the phone. Hench the fact check statement I made.
You really need to go focus on someone else and leave me alone now.

I don't think google is wrong so much as they're just not going about things in the most efficient way possible.
I like the idea of what they want to do, I just think main stream consumers expect a lot more when they're paying what google is asking for their gen 1 phone.

I'm sure it will be a nice phone, but for the money you can get a lot more and as others have said buying from Verizon will not get you the experience that google want's you to get from the phone.

From what I can see there are no sell outs on the Verizon phones, just the 5.5 128gb google phones and who knows how many they made for their first production run. Estimates for the year are they sell around 3 million so you figure $250 to make each phone that's still a nice profit.

that's the most sensible reply I've read so far! :)

I am taking the plunge with the XL and 128gb. Planned on the Note 7 but obviously no go on that. I'm also doing verizon. The 2GB on data for free with the payment plan is a significant plus.

my note5 is getting old and wanted the note7 but looks like im gonna buy this pixel and see how it goes. its gonna be replaced next year most likely anyways. i get bored with phones about year after buying it. I dont drink so i save the cash for the stupid $800 phones every year

We've been trained that Google phones were the good affordable option... This is a change in their methodology. I am on the BMW forums but I knew what I was into when I bought a BMW so I had my expectation set, BMW was never known as an affordable car in my life time.

Google hasn't been known as a cheap option either other than 3 phones and 2 tablets. All of their other stuff has been priced normally in line with their peers - except the Pixel and Glass products, which have always been top of the line hardware at premium price points. With your car example, I'd consider Pixel the equivalent of the Rolls Royce, most of their products being BMW and with Nexus being more like mini. Same company, three brands, three different levels of expectations.

I don't like this analogy but guess it sorta works.
