Will T-Mobile Nexus 6 ever get 6.0?

No one has received it yet. T-mobile is still holding it back for some unknown reason. But most people have been successful in getting it pushed by removing sim card, hard resetting and then connecting to wifi. Some supposedly have done it with just a soft reset. I have had it since the beginning since i sideloaded the zip file. Works just fine.

6.0 ota

T-Mobile LYZ28N 5.1.1. I've looked all over the web: xda, droid-life, AC etc. None have the ota file for 6.0. Anyone know where I can get it from, so I can sideload it?

Re: 6.0 ota

I side loaded zip file ota for 6.0 and it works great with my n6 on t-mobile. Android police had it and also qbking77.

I pulled the sim and almost did the FDR but decided to wait. My Nexus flies on lollipop. And I don't want to set everything back up again. I just have to be patient.

Just thought I'd pass this Twitter thread along. I found it on the T-Mobile Support pages for the Nexus 6

According to Des, the T-Mobile product developer, no "unified build" currently exists for the Nexus 6, and he seems to claim that the available factory images are not T-Mobile worthy.

If that's the case then t-mobile is retracting back from what they said about unifying and working with one build. Especially since the current build works just fine. I have volte, visual voicemail built into the dialer and flawless Wi-Fi calling. Don't know why they need a separate build. That is not very uncarrier.

I broke down and did the sim pull with FDR combo....didn't work.

I don't know that anyone from T-Mobile ever made that claim. I know it's been echoed to infinity online, and I can certainly see Google wanting it to be true. But T-Mobile's been such a freaking wildcard over their version of WiFi Calling that I can't imagine them being anything but skeptical (or unwilling to go along with other carriers) about a unified build.

Did not work for me.... Did a fdr for nothing? Oh well.. Time to sit back and wait.

Did you remember to remove the sim card and connect to wifi? Also, you have to log into the phone and then try it again if first time didn't work. With most people it took 2 resets. Otherwise just sideload the ota zip if you know how to use adb.

Hard to sideload the ota, when I'm running LYZ28N. No ota file for that build.

That means you haven't received the 5.1.1 patch. That ota is available now. I got it a while back now. Don't know why you haven't gotten that. Most users on tmobile are currently on LYZ28M which does have an ota zip that will get them to 6.0. Even tmobile has the LYZ28M as already being deployed.

Update: never mind, looks like tmobile released the patch after the LYZ28M update and therefore made all those phones stuck until you flash image yourself or wait for their ota. Tmobile is really sucking it up.

If you had already updated to LYZ28N, you can't sideload the OTA image as the available one is for LYZ28M. Your options would be to either wait for T-Mobile to (hopefully soon) release a working OTA to update from that build, or to flash to original stock image (which is what I did - reposted Google's 'dummy-proof' guide here).

Worth noting, if you have your device set to autobackup app information, etc, there's very little you'll have to do after flashing the 6.0 build and letting it re-download your app catalog to get it back to where it was app-wise. I basically just had to re-login usernames and passwords for several.

I would like to think T-Mobile will (reasonably) quickly get out an OTA, within the next 1-4 weeks, but if you're in a rush or if battery life is an existing concern for you, go ahead and flash it. I'd never done it before, am not terribly tech-inclined (on computers, at least), and it was easy. And 'Doze' is the real deal!

Edit: chuckling over the fact that I had to use the term 'dummy-proof' instead of the normal _____-proof as that 5 letter word is auto-censored...

T-Mobile has also (at least partially) deployed the LYZ28N patch, which replaced version LYZ28M. Once a user updates to that, they can't simply roll back the version without flashing the image - even a FDR doesn't do that. So those with LYZ28N have been in an awkward position.

T-Mobile released the LYZ28M update a while back already. Most people should already have this if not all. I got it pushed to my phone over a month or more ago. That is weird that some people still don't have it. Just remember if you are rooted or at one point were rooted and unrooted, then it most likely won't work.

Yep, now i know what you mean. T-mobile released the patch by itself instead of the full build like google did therefore freezing anyone from sideloading the ota zip. Only solution now is to wait for ota or flash the image. That sucks.

Yup. I've checked all the ota sites for the new 6.0 file. And zip, zero, squat. I'll keep checking.

Note: The sim removal and FDR WILL NOT WORK if you updated to LYZ28N (i.e., the November security 5.1.1 update). Nor can you sideload any of the t-mobile OTA Android 6.0 updates as the latest one of these is for LYZ28M (the October update). You're only option if you want 6.0 now is to flash it from Google images.

Just wanting to re-emphasize that flashing the image really isn't a big deal. I'd feared I'd lose a lot more app data, but in reality lost virtually nothing other than locally stored media (of which, all of my captured videos/photos had already been backed up) and messaging history. Normally I've been happy to wait for the OTA figuring that by the time I got it most of the kinks would have been worked out of the initial release, but after a bit it got to the point where the benefits to be had were evidently huge (again, Doze rocks!) and with no glitches. Having seen how unimpactful and simple flashing the image was, I won't hesitate to do it again for future releases if I haven't gotten the OTA by such time at which I'm confident there aren't crippling bugs.

But yes, it sucks that there's no way to revert the build to one that could simply afford sideloading the OTA - all the more so since if T-Mobile were to never release an OTA, their users who'd updated to LYZ28N would be stuck with a T-Mobile-centric build even if they flipped to another carrier, unless they flashed the image.
