will tab 4.7 get lollipop update?

Anyone noticed this using Kies from Windows lately? Note the latest firmware line.

I don't want to upgrade, as I'm helping a relative move this month. Upgrading might break root... Anyone know if this is Lollipop for our 7 inch Tab 4's? Thanks!

Keep getting run around from Samsung about the firmware they posted it would get the update end of July or early August 2015 well there is no update as of August 19 2015. Samsung can't give a straight answer to why the firmware 5.1 for galaxy tab 4.7 WiFi since the tablet is the low end. Another thing was to be update in Q2 well it is almost end of Q3 guess Samsung just sitting with there thumb up there behinds.

My opinion as a frequent flyer around the world is that 7" is no low end and somebody should make a serious 7" with at least 128GB flash and 4GB of RAM and a good camera with good optics.
I know this 'somebody' is not Samsung, because they are not interested in customers opinions. My GT2 7" is still waiting for the promised update as well my GT4 7".
Google must make something to the OS. Why dont they make a minimal kernel, which could be installed and which then collects the programs amd drivers from their servers. Or like Plan9, which buildt the installation packet on a server according to the specs of the machine. Android stinks as it is now.

I've always preferred 7" devices. I tried a Nexus 6 and it was too small. 8" is too big. They need to show some love to the only devices that both fit in your pocket and are big enough to get things done.

As you can see it is almost mid Sept and still no updated for the Galaxy Tab 4.70 I got a email from someone who I don't trust said it will be in 1 to 3 months which would take it to next year I have no idea what Samsung is waiting for all other tablets have been updated to 5.0, 5.1. I seen on T-Mobile that the 3G LTE been release so what is the hold up for WiFi

I think part of the problem is that the Tab 4 7 inch runs on the Marvell chipset. This shouldn't be an excuse, but I have read of difficulties doing development work for that chipset. Makes me wonder why Samsung chose to use Marvell for the 7's. I know one answer is to save some $$$ in manufacturing. Another reason is that they have been releasing newer low end versions of their 7 inch in other markets outside the USA recently. So much for streamlining their lineup, ha. They probably need some $$$ after losing their recent patent battle with Apple in the courts. *shrug*

If I knew about the Tab 4 7's having the Marvell chipset early on, I would've saved a bit more $$ and spent it on a 10 inch instead. As it is, I'll just hang on to mine as the overclock kernel makes mine more responsive. Maybe I need to tweak the egl.cfg file as well, but internal tweaking/rooting isn't for everyone.

As much as I love Samsung I wouldn't hold my breath. I went through this with my last tablet. Galaxy Note 10.1 was waiting on update for long time. It's still running 4.1

Exactly. The WiFi only tablets don't need carrier approval. It should be easier and faster to update them.

Hmm... glad you chatted with a rep, but that doesn't really bring us tiny Tab4 owners much closer to when we will get Lollipop (as I suspected). I did get a notification for an update a few weeks ago, but haven't bothered with it. There are a few decent indie ROMs for the 7 inch T230. All of them are on XDA developers. I'm going to try one of those instead. :)

That's pretty much what I got when I chatted with a rep two months ago.
Good news, though, looks like the LTE ones (in other countries) are getting the update. The US updates are slated, allegedly, for October-November.

Well I guess that was my point. Company line. Not very encouraging.

I mean given the age and specs of the 4 7.0, Lollipop is all expect to get and I'm fine with that. But I'd at least like to see that!

Checked last night and was pretty shocked that there was a 901mb system update available for download. Now running Android 5.1.1 on my LTE Tab 4 7.0 with no problems so far.

How did you receive the update? Was it OTA or through Kies/Smart Switch on a PC? As you're on a LTE model, could you tell us which carrier you use? Thanks a bunch! :)

I just went into the settings and clicked check for update and it was there. My carrier is Sprint.

Great, thanks. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my rooted wifi only Tab 4. Will have to load my first nandroid backup, unroot, and see if I get an update through OTA or Smart Switch.

Just letting you know, the LTE ones are coming in first. The WiFi ones are still delayed.
