Will the Note 4 get Marshmallow?

Re: Should I give up hope that my Note 4 will get the latest Lollipop or Marshmallow?

The Note 4 has the newest version of Lollipop 5.1.1 and there is no reason to think it wouldn't get Marshmallow. I see it as a no brainer.

I wish my Note 4 had the newest version of Lollipop.

I picked up a new Note 4 yesterday, from a local TMo, and it came with 5.1.1 right away, plus it pushed the Stagefright fix within 15 mins after starting it up.

(I had a Note 3 previously, was waiting to see what the Note 5 was going to be like, and TMo has $150 off their Note 4, so I figured now was the time to get a Note 4).

Are you on Verizon?

I'm on AT&T and mine doesn't yet, either, but I don't blame Sammy for that. That's a carrier-locked edition issue and a carrier that can't be bothered to release updates quickly. I knew that going in, but the subsidy was too tempting to ignore.

I am completely confident that the unlocked base Samsung Note 4 will get Marshmallow, probably in a few months because of the need to integrate TouchWiz, S-Pen, S-Health, etc etc into base AOSP.

I am somewhat confident that, in due time, most carriers will release Marshmallow on their branded Note 4. "Due time" being "not this year".

I am completely confident that some carriers will never release Marshmallow for the Note 4.

Still waiting for 5.1.1 here in the UK on the Note 4 international sim free, but initially there will be no Note 5 released here, only the S6+, why? I don't know but it's a shame for those die hard Note fans who have flocked to buy the latest model on release day.
I have had my Note 4 for nearly 4 months now and I must say I'm surprised how slow the updates are coming.

I've had 5.1.1 for three weeks (ish)...there's no reason to think your note won't get it... If you're a Verizon customer...you'll get it late...like every other update that's not bull**** ios

I've had mine for about the same time. The UK seems to be behind on all Sammy updates, especially unlocked devices.

I have no idea why they have frozen out the European and UK market for the Note 5 line. Surely Europe must in their top 3 biggest markets?

Maybe Samsung doesn't like Europe?

Perhaps they think the Note 5 will flop and don't want to invest in production for these countries until they see how it goes in the US, etc.

To the OP... too early to give up!

I'm also on KitKat. What happens if you just don't like the UI? As far as that goes, all my computers still run Windows XP SP2! I have zero problems!

Well from what history shows. They do eventually get the newest Android OS but it usually takes a year or two for them to actually use the newest operating system.

Verizon does not. It is on 5.01

I doubt Sammy cares much for the Note 4 now that the 5 is being released.

I'm still surprised that my old S4 go the Lollipop update a few months before the Note 4.

There were a few more things that had to be addressed with the Note 4 than the S4. The S Pen, for example. The more features, the more things that must be addressed in a system update. The Note 4 has already been upgraded by several carriers to 5.1.1 from 5.01 or 5.02. The others will update soon, I'm sure. Just remember, the update releases are controlled by the carriers, not the phone manufacturers. I'm positive the Note 4 will be updated to Marshmallow (6.0) in the future. Believe me, there are a whole lot of Note 4 users out there that won't be switching to the Note 5. After all, you got a Lollipop update for your S4 when the S5 and S6 were already in service.

Samsung's support website for the US, still shows the OS Version being 5.01

For what carrier? I'm on T-Mobile and still have 5.0.1. But Sprint has already released 5.1.1. It's a carrier issue.

I wish my Note 4 had the newest version of Lollipop.

It's a carrier issue, not Samsung. T-Mobile, my carrier, hasn't released the 5.1.1 update yet, for instance.
