Since I have never had a Note this question may seem odd.

Will the Note8 get a software upgrade next September that gives it the Note9 new software SPen features.

Just wondering the software upgrade path. Or will the Note8 only have what we have today and if the Note9 has 5 new SPen software features you will have to get the Note9 to get those features?

Note9 Hardware upgrades not included, of course.

interesting question and one without an answer for now.

Sammy is rather known for downgrading it's spen experience, though, rather than upgrading it, imo, at least where Action Notes, etc. is concerned. several things were removed going as far back as the N5, if I'm not mistaken. there's a thread about things removed, etc.

There is a history of bring new pen features to old note models. The screen off memo wasn't available on original note 4, but I got it with an update after the five or seven came out. (Don't remember which). I think I got air command updates too.

I lost some functions on my action notes and snotes though. did you?

I don't remember to be honest. It's mostly retired now and has been for a while so I haven't noticed all the changes and when they happened.

My favorite feature, being able to jot down a name and number and have it go to contacts, is still there.

I'd still use it more regularly if had hadn't lost my Sim adapter. I keep wanting to get a note 8 so I don't get a new Sim adapter, but when I think about it I don't want to lose note 4 features. I am stuck clinging to functionality that was abandoned in newer models, running the note 4 off of Wi-Fi from my S8.

Most new features make their way to last year's model, but I wouldn't expect Note 10 features on the Note 8.

Can't we just appreciate our NEW Note 8s for a while before worrying about 9s and 10s? :-)

When you are making a $1k purchase some reassurance that it will or will not be upgradable to New pen tools is important.

Please share your money tree with me. ;)

They usually will update the older model with a few of the software features, but often the coolest features are said to be hardware related, so they obviously can't give us those.

You have screen off memos on the Note 4? I don't.
The Note5 was updated after the Note7 came out. I don't recall the Note 4 being updated. It's still on Marshmallow as well.

I don't think it's about having a money tree...honestly, I kinda assume that I am going to get some of the upgrades to the next phone on my old one.
I expected that I would get some of the N5's upgrades on my 4, and I did.
I agree that it is a valid question, given the cost of the phone, but not one I'd be concerned about in a phone barely a week old. IJS.
