Will there be a Nexus 5?

There is a Nexus 5 (GE S4). The Nexus 6 is out too (GE One). That's just how see it.

Then you see it entirely incorrectly.
Google Edition devices are not Nexus devices.

Will the next device to be released running stock Android be the Nexus 7 then?

Sound logic, bud.

They don't even run stock as in aosp, they run a modified version of Touchwiz and Sense, respectively, that removes most of the features of their devices to attain a less bloated stock look and feel. There are now many devices with stock or near stock user experiences, but that is not the criteria for being a nexus.

I would definitely like to see LTE and more storage. Has anyone heard who Google will partner with? All of the articles stating that they were sticking with LG have dissappeared.

There is a difference between being one of the sheeple and being insane. Windows users continuing to buy newer and newer versions of Windows hoping for improvements or thinking they are perhaps better off on the security front are insane. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Most people buy an iPhone because of branding and neither know nor care about what they are missing. They are sheeple because they like being led around by the nose and don't want to chew their own food.

I prefer Android because, even though I use it with most of the default settings and configuration intact, those basic things are better executed than in iOS, to say nothing of not having a restrictive one-size-fits-all business policy that undergirds all of the design choices in iOS.

I also love full native support for a bunch of media codecs, particularly OGG and FLAC, and the fact that its ecosystem includes open-source as an inherent part of all business policy and design factors.

I agree with you regarding the qualities of Android and I'm definitely not trying to say iOS is better, although objectively I couldn't say because I never experimented with iOS. Neither am I planning too, and I guess some people could call me a sheep for that reason. But I think it's a little bit arrogant to consider that so many people who choose iOS are simply sheep. There must be some qualities in iOS that appeal to certain people and make it the right choice for them, if so many have made that choice. And some of those people are also very tech-savvy.

That said, I'm not trying to derail the thread or anything. I just think people here in general can be a bit too emotionally involved in this iOS vs Android thing. Rather than trying to figure out who is wrong or right, we should just focus on exchanging tips and tricks, spreading our knowledge about the os that we love, and be a bit more relaxed about this whole thing (not saying your not relaxed).

Cheers

I'm anticipating a Nexus 5 this October/November. I'd really like to see:

1.more storage
2. better camera
3. 5" 1080P screen
4. wireless charging
5. water resistant

But that's just me...heck if they just check off #1 and #2 I'd be happy. Regardless, I'm itching to replace my S3, and this is the phone that I plan on doing that with.

I haven't really looked at 1080p screens yet. But I'm really happy with my N4's 720p. Do you guys think it's worth the extra power consumption? I guess I should try to look at the same thing on an htc one and my nexus 4 to get a better idea. I've seen many people complaining that the motorola x coming with a 720p screen was not acceptable.

How has nobody mentioned that the Nexus number correlates to screen size. If they have a Nexus 5 it will only be because it would have a 5.x inch screen just like the Nexus 4, 7, & 10. My hope is that they update the 4 just like the did with the 7 and if they wanted to come out with a 5 alongside it, that'd be cool too. But, I don't think Google wants to make a 5.x inch phone.

You probably won't notice a difference between 720p and 1080p unless you are looking at the phones side by side. I would suggest you visit a store and compare your Nexus 4 with a phone with a 1080p screen and judge for yourself.

The power consumption depends on how you use your phone and how big the battery is. (For example, I hear people who use the Droid Razr Maxx or the Note 2 never worry about their batteries because they hold a lot of power.) A lot of people hope Google will make improvements in battery life, but that also depends on their hardware partners, too.

I don't think anyone has a Moto X right now except tech journalists. A 720p screen is probably fine on a smaller handset like the Moto X, but again, you'll need to judge for yourself in person. Your own eyes are better than anyone's opinion on what looks good.

Great question... I was just thinking about this...
Nexus 5 > Nexus 6 > Nexus 7 .... wait.... cant do that.
After pondering I thought they might do something like this
Nexus V > Nexus VI > Nexus VII

Who knows. Maybe they will just keep it Nexus 4 and use code names in alphabitical order just like the android versions. but instead of Desserts.. maybe animals.
Nexus 4 bear > Nexus 4 cat > Nexus 4 dog > Nexus 4 elephant. haha

That's one thing I'm confused with. What are they going to name the later devices.

The GE phones gets the latest updates too. As for the numbers 5 and 6, that's a question I ask myself, " What would they call it?"

Can't we take that cue from the Nexus 7 that just came out? It's again called the Nexus 7. The Nexus 10 this winter is called the Nexus 10. Perhaps we could deduce Nexus 4 for the Nexus 4 refresh as well... unless it actually is 5 inches (I'm doubting this rumor until Google says it or supply chains leak it), then Nexus 5 sounds about right. Given that they just released the Moto X at the same 4.7" though, I'd bank on 4.7". That seems to be the size they love. GNex was 4.65, N4 was 4.7, Moto X 4.7.

No. They don't. Apparently you didn't know that. Nexus devices receive immediate updates; GE devices were not updated immediately. Besides, a device receiving a prompt update does not make it a Nexus device. There's a reason the One and S4 are"Google Edition" devices and not referred to as Nexus devices.

The Nexus 4 is actually called the Nexus 4... You can't just tack on numbers to the One and GS4 and call them Nexus devices. That's entirely incorrect.

Ask yourself this, instead: what is the successor to the Nexus 7 named?

But, I don't think Google wants to make a 5.x inch phone.

Google may not set out to make a 5-inch phone, but the next Nexus may end up that way. A smartphone depends on the integration of the battery, processor, radios, and screen. Maybe the processor and radios use so much power that you need a bigger battery. You can either make the phone thicker or increase the height and width. Since people tend to like thin phones, the manufacturers just increase the height and width and slap a screen that looks good. That's how you end up with a 5-inch phone.

Sure the screen could be 5"s but only 4.8"s of it are usable b/c the other .2"s houses the back, home and settings buttons.

I agree. I think they'll just refresh it.

They could just use a slightly bigger screen to account for the on-screen buttons. That way the user gets a full 5 inches for the rest of the display.

but if he whole screen is 5.2 inches then the top and bottom bezel will equal 1 inch or more combined so overall the whole phone will be around 5.3 inches thats a little big but im still in hope

I would like to see LTE. Seems obvious the phone will come out with the klp. I'd like to see better battery life. That's really my only want with the next like of phones.

Do you see a Nexus anywhere in their official name? Did you think Google just forgot? The GES4 and GEONE are nexus-like only in the fact that they get their mostly vanilla updates earlier. No Google "subsidy" on price, OEM responsible for updates, not Google, no software keys, zero collaboration on hardware design or materials with Google = No Nexus. It's a good option to have, no doubt, but call it as it is in reality. I will eat my shoes if the LG G2 is not the Nexus 5.
