Will there ever be a root method that doesn't involve wiping?

I definitely would like to root at some point, but I would really prefer not to lose my app data. If I had to wipe right after I got root, but had a chance to titanium backup, that would be okay too. Will rooting without wipe ever be possible?

Your only possibility is to wait for unrevoked. When I had my Dinc I was able to root w/o wipe. It did its dance and installed superuser. I could be wrong but that's what I remember. Why are you so worried about losing data? It's really not that bad. Unless its game data you're worried about, then again you can play em over again. Life goes on. You're gonna have to make a small sacrifice to gain the ultimate Android/tbolt experience. You won't be sorry once you make the dive

I guess it is mostly game progress and heavily tweaked settings that I don't want to have to document beforehand. I also have purchased apps that have been taken off the market, like N64oid. Also, in light of yesterday's news of wireless tether being blocked from the market, it shouldn't be too difficult to sideload it, right?

Being that you arent rooted doesn't help but there's an app that requires root access called titanium backup. It's backs up all apps and app data. Sideloading apps isn't a prob as long as you can find the apk or have some1 supply it

I use MyBackup from the market. No root needed. It saves user data and apps and will restore settings. I wish I knew about it before I rooted.
