Will updates be just as quick on Verizon?

Google will control it. It won't have Verizon bloat.

In the presentation yesterday, they said that updates would come straight from Google and would happen in the background without us having to trigger them in any way. I don't trust Verizon but I'm hoping Google has already cleared this hurdle.

Portably not because it's Verizon or carriers involved in general. Any time carrier is involved bad things happen.

Screw it I just cancelled my Verizon order and got unlocked from Google. Not going to chance it. I can live without wifi calling or whatever small benefits the Verizon version will have

I just watched the part of the announcement again that talks about the updates. Their exact words are "We've also made the update process easier. When a new update is available, it will be downloaded and installed in the background. This means that the next time you start your phone, you'll instantly be using the new version. We just take care of it for you." My take away from this is that will work the same way as my Chromebook does. And if this is the case, then I don't see how Verizon will be involved, but it is Verizon, so I guess we'll have to wait to see. Maybe one of the AC writers can get a definitive answer to this question.

Hmmm... I don't know as I'd be too sure about the control thing.

The Moto X Pure Edition is supposed to be "Pure Android," yet people all over the world, and, of course, unlocked XPEs were getting updates while XPE owners on Verizon were not. The Lenovorola forums mods and the like were saying "It's up to Verizon." People would even turn off their cellular radios to force their phones onto WiFi-only, just so they could get the update. Then, if they weren't careful, after re-connecting to the cellular network VZW would revert them.

Finally, w/in the last few weeks, the update rolled out to their customers.

I took this to mean that steps involved in processing a downloaded update would be more seamless. I did not see anything implying that the availability of an update would be guaranteed.

Agreed. The vzw version will have seamless BG updates... But I don't Verizon will be out of the loop.

This is y I ordered the unlocked one. Already have a sim card that I used in my Nexus 6p all I gotta do is pop it in and I'll be good to go.

This is my dilemma as well... Can get $300 for my Galaxy S6 if I trade it in to Verizon, but then I'm stuck with a Verizon Pixel... I'm nervous it will defeat the whole purpose of the phone if Verizon keeps it from getting updated... My phone looks like it will go for $125 on eBay, so are the timely updates worth $175?
