Will VZW get it? What do you think?

Rubin said that LTE Galaxy Nexus wasn't a good experience for their customers. He didn't say verizon wouldn't get it. Imo this is the best option for now most likely, however they could be very well negotiating for nexus devices for cdma carriers with full Google control of the software.

If Apple can do it, Google can do it. It feels like Google may be trying to hype up the Nexus 4 so that Verizon customers ask Verizon "why can't we have the Nexus 4?"

Very well possible and thats my thought too. Google is just as big of a force in the tech industry so they can pressure carriers to do it right.

Sorry mate. It's not up to Verizon. Google learned it's lesson.

I think he is correct. While the other Galaxy Nexus phones have received the latest upgrades for Jelly Bean, VZW customers are still waiting. In my opinion VZW doesn't have any good excuses for dragging their feet other than they can.

Are you serious?

I think he's not only serious, he's correct. Android 4.1.1 came out in early July, and the Galaxy Nexus just got 4.1.1 a week or so ago, well after 4.1.2 came out. That's damned near 4 months late for an update to a Nexus phone. That means that the GNex will probably not get 4.2 and all the sphere-y-camera goodness until at least March.

I can, kinda, forgive Verizon for being continually late on the Thunderbolt, which when I bought it was their flagship phone. That was a year ago, and it was already late to the Gingerbread party. Now we're still waiting on ICS. But the Thunderbolt was just a "flash in the pan" Flagship phone, and HTC and Verizon have put it so far out on the back burner I think it's actually not in the kitchen any more. And since it's not a Nexus phone, while I'm a little peeved about being abandoned, it comes with the territory.

The Galaxy Nexus is a Nexus phone that's less than a year old, and Verizon already has it on a 4-month delay.

Verizon screwed the pooch with their shot at Nexus-dom, and I don't think Google is dumb enough to want to water down the Nexus experience again.

People complain too much about the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Yeah the updates arrive a little late, where as the Droid Bionic, another Verizon phone, just now got ICS. My phone got ics fairly quick, as in 6 months after it came out, but it's not getting another update ever again. Also if you waited to get jellybean your lazy because google provides full aosp support for it.

It's still a nexus. Google still provides the updates either way, and its discontinued yet it's going to get updates for the next year at least.

And honestly its the best version of the gnex... Lte and 32 gigs ftw!

If anyone thinks that Google will not release their prime time product on the largest carrier in the USA you are crazy. Google is all about making money. They will release this phone to any carrier that wants to release it. Google is a COMPANY trying to make MONEY. Money makes the world go 'round. Keep that in mind.

So if they are about making money why are they selling it for $150 less than what T-Mobile is offering it for? Google is also selling the nexus 7 for just above cost of materials. Seems to me they aren't too concerned with making money off these devices.

I highly doubt you know what it costs Google to make these devices.

T-Mobile won't be selling many of these things for $500. They will likely get $199 for them on classic plans. If Google offered it for $500 I think it would still sell, but atm I think they are poised to sell a lot more because of the price tag.

Well in the 30 seconds I searched google, it seems google produces the Nexus 7 for $152.**. Selling them for only $48 profit. Here is an article explaining that they are in fact selling it for just above cost. Google Nexus 7 developed in just 4 months, sold essentially at cost price | Android Central
I however do not have info on the cost to produce the phones, but with them releasing a 32GB Nexus 7 with HSPA+ connectivity, (basically a 7" GNex) for $299, I still don't see much profit. Sure its more costly to include the HSPA+, but how much? So no, I don't know, but I can speculate. My reasoning to think that they aren't concerned with making money on devices is based on that with lower price points, it attracts customers to the Android ecosystem. Once they have an android device in your hands, they make more money in ads/app/book/music/movie/tv etc.. sales to compensate for the low priced devices. I'd also speculate that T-Mobile will probably drop the price around thanksgiving. And I don't think we'll see a VZW variant for a while.

I agree that their main goal is to get them into the ecosystem. However I think very few people know what Google actually pays to make these devices. If you look at some of the random knockoff tablets they are nearing or in some cases exceeding the specs of the n7 and they sell for less. It's unlikely they can get the type of discounts google can get as well.

The profit margin likely isn't huge.....but I think it might surprise ppl. Just my guess anyway.
