Will we ever get Oreo?

It's really annoying we need to have this discussion as all our models should be upgraded within a few days... If Apple can do it do should Samsung

I'm in Okinawa at the moment, so I probably won't get the update until I get back to the US. I'm on Verizon, and I can't check for updates while roaming.

One day, that will happen. For the near future, Its just a sweet dream....

I tried using those instructions but upon extracting the files in the update for Odin they had the wrong file extension and would not work. After extraction they still had the .rar extension but could not be opened with any unzip program I tried. It was the AP file that would not work. Anyone here know the solution or why the files are like that?

That is not possible as long as Samsung and LG and the other manufacturers put skins over android. They are not going to stop doing that. Many of us use the Note 8 for the S-Pen. Well the functions of the S-Pen are baked into the Samsung Experience that goes over android. That isn’t going to be updated in only a few days. I don’t want a rushed update full of bugs. If you want instant updates, buy a Pixel.

Also, you can’t compare Apple to Samsung when talking about updates. So many differences in so many ways. iPhone vs Pixel, yes but as soon as a manufacturer adds a there own spin on android it’s over for quick updates. Buy a phone because you like what it does in its current state not for what may or may not come.

But that doesn't explain why the slow security updates and up to 6 months when identical model phones get updated. I'm in Thailand just got Jan security. And France has had oreo about a week now could take months to arrive in other countries.. I think Samsung has too many models to worry about... And surely it doesn't take 6 months plus to update their skins etc.. I luv the phone but not the updates

I understand your frustration. I get monthly security updates here in the US on Verizon. That’s really all I care about. Getting Oreo on my Note 8 won’t change much for me from what I’ve seen. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be happy to get it, but I know that if I choose Samsung or pretty much anyone other than Nexus/Pixel, I better like the phone as it is. In the case of the Note 8, I’m very happy with it even if I only received my security updates. If I were not getting those I’d definitely strongly consider another phone like the Pixel 2 XL.

All that being said, I do think it will continue to get better, but I wouldn’t expect it to ever get to the speed of Apple or Pixel.

So can anyone tell me what the major new features and benefits are with Oreo Update considering all the hype and moaning around when we are getting the update, it better have come with some incredible new features.

Any to speak of? Or would we have been better off with just a Security Update?

A lot of what I'm seeing people reporting is their battery life has increased drastically so that's the main thing I'm looking for if it's true. Everything else ive seen has been cosmetic. Change in locksreen notifications and stuff like that.

While I would like to get Oreo in my Note 8, I am in no hurry. Lots of the Oreo features Google put in is already there in Samsung Experience. Unless Samsung is bringing Android Treble support which simplified update process, Oreo has very little to offer for Note 8.

Of course this assuming, Samsung Experience shipped with Oreo doesn’t contain large differences and fixes.

I've heard that too. That would make it worth while for me.

My wife's T-Mobile S8 updated to Oreo this morning. Features she'll never use.

If you aren't aware, the Oreo update has been on hold because of issues with the initial rollout. I'm guessing we'll be seeing it in the next 2 weeks. 🏾*♀️

Not that I see. Battery about the same. In fact the whole experience is pretty much the same. I put it on because I had time and I thought I'd have a look. It's really no big deal. Install it now, or wait - doesn't matter much.

Re: Oreo Update

Nothing. It's all minor, and mostly backend optimizing.
Amazing! We've got 18 pages of discussion on this q and for what? If it's working well, y bother. If you really want a new experience then use a different launcher.
