Will we ever get Oreo?

I've read that note 8 will see Oreo in April in the United States.

I agree with others, the note 8 is running fine now, no hurry. I already know that when everyone gets Oreo there will be countless posts as to how Oreo screwed up the note 8 and can we go back.

I don't doubt it. I'll wait at least a few weeks until I've read enough to be pretty certain it won't bork my phone.

I don't have a note 8, but I have a s8 plus. So far Oreo has been working fine for me. My battery life has been the same. It doesn't seem like it's increased , but it's not bad .the only big issue for other posters is that Samsung removed the option to change the notification tone for the stock messaging app. You can change it with a third party sms app , but most of those apps you can't change the tone until you start a conversation.them removing that option isnt a big deal for me, but if that's really important to you, don't rush the update. Lol

I noticed this on my S9+. I don't know why Samsung took this away. It's not right.

To change notification tone. Open the message app-settings(three dots in the upper right corner)- notifications-general notifications and/or new messages. At least that option is on my S9+.

Are you talking about custom ringtones for individual contacts or just having the messaging app play a different tone than your default tone in settings? Cause all my friends with the s8 plus and s9 plus can change it for the messaging app. Not sure about individual contacts though.

They are referring to custom notifications for individual contacts in the messaging app.

I'm currently downloading 8.0 for my s8 plus on tmobile. Why would the carriers and samsung release it for the s8 sooner than the Note 8 when the Note 8 is the newer device? Such bs.

Well, the S8 IS the more mainstream device.

So can anyone tell me what the major new features and benefits are with Oreo Update considering all the hype and moaning around when we are getting the update, it better have come with some incredible new features.

Any to speak of? Or would we have been better off with just a Security Update?

Google it fcs. You'll be able to read about the many benefits of Oreo.

What exactly is the point of a forum when I want ACTUAL user feedback?
Your comment defeats the purpose of a forum.

If you have nothing better to say keep it moving buddy.

A lot of what I'm seeing people reporting is their battery life has increased drastically so that's the main thing I'm looking for if it's true. Everything else ive seen has been cosmetic. Change in locksreen notifications and stuff like that.
Indeed, it seems battery life has seen a decent increase.

Nobody seems to be reporting much more than that.

Waiting for it to be released here now.

Come a long ways since the Verizon UTStarcom XV6700 "Smartphone" back in 2001 I had…

Personally for me that is the most important improvement. Everything about the phone has been great including the battery but thats one area that can always get batter on any phone. Or at least an area that I would never turn down an improvement.

Agreed :)

Usually with a new Android OS release the one thing that is badly impacted is Batter Life - not always the case, but has become more of a normal in more recent releases
