Will you avoid a Moto Nexus?

Will you consider a Motorola Nexus?

Wasn't the original Droid essentially a Nexus (minus the cutting edge hardware)?

Not really, it was crapped up with Verizon apps and all that. It had stock, but that was only because Verizon didn't want Motoblur (which is why none of the Droid phones have gotten full Motoblur).

It was close but not a nexus type of device. There are a few reason's as to why it was not a nexus type:

- Had bloatware that verizon pre-installed
- bootloader was locked and they changed the way it was locked after each update. Each root guide was different and you never knew if the next update would be un-rootable.
- Motorola was the distributor of updates.
- The google branding on the back said "with google" instead of just "google".

The Droid was def a google experience phone but it was not officially so due to those reasons. Motorola has def been slipping since the Droid but the one device set the stage for Android. It is also the device that I tend to compare with when looking into a new phone. If it feels cheap, I will pass. The Droid was a solid piece of hardware.

The Droid 1 was surprisingly light on the bloat. The only things I remember were amazon mp3 and visual voice mail. Compare that to the 8-10 crapps I had to uninstall after rooting my tbolt and Droid x.

Verizon and Sprint canned the nexus one at the last minute, and now Sprint is getting the nexus s. I wonder if Verizon will ever get any nexus device now that they have partner with Apple.

Seems to me avoiding locked down motos and buying open motos is the best way to show them what we really want. If you avoid everything, they won't change anything.

AT&T had the N1, and looks to be getting the NS soon.

This. Unfortunately, I doubt sales would be enough for them to notice.

AT&T didn't get the N1, they just made a compatible version.

The only way AT&T would get the Nexus S is if they allowed side-loading apps. Otherwise no Nexus-s (officially at least)

Motorola doesn't deserve the honor of Nexus

I had the Motorola Cliq, the first one, waited for the 2.1 update for nearly a year and a half...My abandoned Cliq now rests at its watery grave in Lake Michigan.:)

Um.. The Motorola DROID (just DROID, no X, no 2) did/does NOT have a locked bootloader. The Milestone (GSM version) did and all their subsequent Droid releases have, but not the original.

Root methods change after every update because the bugs exploited to gain root are fixed, but that has nothing to do with the bootloader.

I think I'd pass on a Motorola Nexus if it ever happened just due to it being Motorola. I feel burned by them after the Atrix experience with the way they locked it down and made it sub-par of what it should have been.

Doubt they will allow moto to lock it down since Nexus series devices are made for developers. I would think they will ask moto to make one but unlocked and if it's locked then they will go somewhere else.

Moto has always had nice solid phones.. ATT got away from Moto's.. and Moto lost it's vision for awhile there with their designs.. but they seem to have gotten back on track with their Android offering... would like to see what Premium platform they would grace the NEXUS design with... premium hardware platform for the premium Android offering.. pure Google!!

Moto makes good hardware but if they put boot locker on a nexus device or something to that effect; then there is no point of calling it a nexus android phone. And they do not deserve to to make a Nexus device.

I'm sorry, but if you seriously say that a Motorola Nexus wouldn't be awesome, you're blinded by fanboyism. And IMO, manufacturer fanboys don't deserve to even use Android.

Am I missing something? Isnt a Nexus phone just a google phone made by someone else?
To my understanding, to be a Nexus phone there isn't any manufacture overlays, just pure android OS, designed to be a Dev phone.
Which then results in not who the manufacture is but who or what hardware it has.

I for one dont care who makes it give me a Dell Nexus D or Kyocera Nexus K just put in great hardware.

I'm just going to let everyone admire the irony in this statement ;)

That's part of the issue, a Kyocera Nexus would NOT be good hardware (not to mention they'd probably give it like 6 screens). I have no doubt that Moto would make a great phone, but the question is almost do they deserve it?

Alright, tell me why it wouldn't be awesome. For your information, btw, I admire all the manufacturers in our little ecosystem, and own phones nearly by all of them. My favorite at this point, is a Samsung.

But sure, go ahead, give me some crap about how you hate Moto because they killed your dog or something. I'm tired of it. I see fanboys bashing Moto, Samsung, pretty much anything that's not HTC all the time, so excuse me for calling it like I see it. Each phone has it's ups and downs, I'm tired of all the brand loyalty.

Let me tell you why it would be awesome; for the same reason the Nexus One was, and the Nexus S was, and whatever the next one will be. Great hardware, great software, and user freedom, end of story. I'm a proud Nexus fanboy, sorry.

I agree that it would be awesome hardware, I just think a statement calling someone a fanboy if they don't think something that we haven't seen is awesome sounds rather fanboyish itself :p. No hate intended.

My issue with Moto is the locked bootloader. I would never buy a non Nexus Moto, and I won't be buying and HTC now that they're going in the same direction. My favoritism is to openness, not a manufacturer.

That being said, I'll probably get the next Nexus if it comes out with AT&T bands, no matter who makes it. Otherwise, I'll be getting a phone that I can do what I want with.

I guess you're right, my post could be seen as rather fanboyish.

Personally, I really like Moto's hardware, but I don't like their locked-down-ness either. Hence, a Moto Nexus would be a dream phone for me; but really the reason for the tone of my post is that I often see a lot of hate directed at Moto and some other manufacturers, as I said. It quite irritates me, especially when everyone screams and whines about Moto sucking because of Blur and locked bootloaders, then at the thought of a Moto phone lacking either of those saying "Moto doesn't deserve it!". Like seriously, why don't you just say, "I've hollowed out a little hole of hate in my mind for x manufacturer, and even if they did something to redeem themselves I will not allow them to escape under any circumstances!"?

Of course, it's the internet, what did I expect. :p Personally, I would prefer LG got the next Nexus simply because I think they could put some awesome specs behind it, but Moto would be good in my book too. Especially considering they're one of the oldest Android handset makers, their turn is coming up.

HTC FTW...Samsung Nexus S isn't bad, mostly bc it's a black device running a quite dark OS but I still think my N1 looked much better
