Hi

I'm trying to connect and view the Note 8 via 3.1 USB connection to my HP Spectre. GThe phone does not show up in file explorer. Not even by USB A to USB C.

Any thoughts?

When you connect, swipe down the notification panel -- do you see the USB icon there? If so, tap it and make sure MTP is selected.

Hi, no I don't see it. In the past with other phones I've seen it. Maybe I turned off that specific notification and don't remember. I checked in Dev options and it's set to MTP but still nothing. Same for any of my PC's.

It sounds like you already tried other cables, correct? Try also cleaning out the phone's charging port. Use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a toothpick to root around for any debris/

So, I just tried it with the original USB-A to USB-C cable and voila. I was hoping to use the USB-C 3.1 cable to check the transfer speed but it's not an original Samsung cable.

I guess there's no way :(

That shouldn't matter. It may be a problem with your laptop's USB-C port.

Oops, I had Liked this post because I thought you meant it worked (since you said "voila").

Did you also try cleaning out the port?
