Hi, My LGV20 is working perfectly and is recognized by other computers.

I go to Microsoft Page and download the MTP driver.
I go to LG Page and install the universal USB LG mobile phone driver, and it says that I don't have the MTP driver installed.

I have spoken to MSFT support. LG support. Reinstalled all drivers. I have no idea what to do.

The phone charges (original LG cable) when plugged in. In device manager, under "other devices" it has an error (code 28) for "LGE Android Phone". When I attempt to update the driver (manually), it says "the install class is not present or is invalid."

Thanks!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Can you uninstall the device in the device manager, and then plug the phone back in to see if it triggers the correct driver to be installed?

Yes, I do that and it still doesn't work.

I reformatted my computer and factory reset my phone.
It tries to get the Android Phone driver (when I uninstall the device and then plug phone back in), but it throws a code 28. Then I get the LG driver (universal usb) from LG's website, and it finishes the install but says error because I don't have Windows MTP driver installed (even though I installed this from MSFTs page).

Can you try connecting any other phone to the computer? See if it can recognize any other phone, or if it's just your V20 that's causing problems.

Go to device manager>portable devices. if the V20 is there (it will probably have a yellow triangle on it), click on it and when the dialog opens up select the tab that says drivers. Then select update drivers. Then select browse my computer for software drivers. Then select let me pick from a list of drivers. It should then come up with two or three MTP usb devices. If you click on them (usually the second one works for me) they will install the drivers and for me it has always worked. But, the caveat here is that you may have to do that every time you connect your phone. But, it's at least a workaround.

And, I hope you can make sense of my convoluted instructions. :)

I did this and i was given an install class error (I manually selected LGE Android MTP driver)

And B. Diddy, My LGV20 works on other computers. And this problem computer allows phones to charge, but i dont think they are syncing. I just reformatted the Windows 10 Home N, and i don't have any drivers. I just plugged an iphone in and it didn't have drivers.

Have you already tried different USB ports on the computer?

When you say you reformatted the computer, do you mean you did a fresh reinstallation of Windows?

Did it offer more than one choice? Mine has always offered three and I had to try more than one to get it to work. Your computer may have a deeper problem, though. I'm on insiders preview and that's when I started having this problem, but at least I found a work around for me.

I did a fresh windows reinstall
I have used different ports and cables

What is insiders preview?

BTW, this computer had NO issues until I moved apartments. Not sure if I physically jarred anything in the move.
Everything else on the computer seems perfect.

Insiders Preview is MS's beta testing program. You get advanced builds and give feedback. But it means you're running beta software. I've been in the program for the past few years.

That's weird that you didn't have the issues before, but electronics seem to have a mind of their own sometimes.

FYI, I have no idea why lots of posts in this thread are being duplicated. I'm deleting all of those dupes. I'll mention this to the site admins.

Try turning off firewall and anti virus apps on Windows. Also, try installing Android SDK ADB tools and see if that helps. Seems like your computer is the one having problems. Worse case scenario, just get a better, updated Windows OS.

Weird thing is, this computer worked fine for 6months.

I tried installing SDK ADB tools, but I'm unsure if I installed them correctly.
The only thing I had on was Windows defender.

What's weird is that this computer used to work with all phones (android and apple). Now all of the sudden it won't. Microsoft has been no help.

And yes, N version is weird, esp with MTP
